Since 3 years, a marriage becomes unforgettable, imagine 27 years, never, he would never erase the half of his life.
No matter how this couple ends the story, how it was, if she betrays him, if she abandoned him, they never forget this relation.

Wow, you are pretty jealous aren't you?
You cannot "forget" your past. He lived with that woman for nearly 3 decades, it would be impossible to "forget" a major portion of his life.
Why do you bring this up? How long have you been married? Were you the cause of the breakup? Or is he one of the completely clueless who continuously compare their current s.o. to the old one? Something else is going on here and I couldn't begin to help you without more details.

Can people ever forget their parents?
Once you have loved someone, there is always a little corner of your heart reserved for those special people.
I know that my husband is still "in love" with his first girlfriend from over 50 years ago.

I like what Tinkerbell said. He can chooise to remember her fondly and learn from that experience. I remember a man I was in love with over 15 years ago. his mommy didn't like me and i still lovehim even tho he and i are married, and we live in seperate coasts. My hubby understands this and I love him for that , too.

No. Men are worse romantics than women are. If you continue to idolize this person unrealistically, you are in for a bad time. Just think of her faults and major contention that you may have had. That helps.

Even if he forget her by systematic and scientific methods, I am sure she will come in his nightmares once in a while and then he will remember her again.
