Well, it depends. Supposedly some animals mate for life, but those animals don't get around in their youth and then settle down later, they settle down as soon as they are sexually mature. Also, if we look at other primates (which is what we usually do when trying to decipher human behaviour) it would seem that it is actually more natural for one man to have many wives, as in a gorilla's harem.
So, I guess my opinion on the matter would be yes it is unnaturally restrictive, but in a way it is like the ultimate act of love and devotion. (I vow to only have sex with you, even though it goes against nature - it sounds crass, I know, but romantic in a weird way?).

Marriage = contract. Therefore it IS UNnaturally restrictive, but, everyone involved is aware of those restrictions before carrying out the process.

No I think that was how things were intended. Hopefully you spend enough time searching for that one marriage partner that you never have the feeling of being restricted. I love my monogamous relationship and couldn't even imagine someone else touching me the way my spouse does.

Yes and no. Culturally, humans "should" have one partner (depending on the culture in question.) However, we are categorized as "serial monogamists", meaning that we typically have one at a time, but have a tendency to change partners on occasion (as seen by the divorce and re-marriage rate.)
Marriage is simply a social contract. If you don't agree, don't enter into the contract.

On the contrary, it is liberating. If two people are in a faithful, exclusive relationship, then they are free of worry about STDs, etc. and they can do anything that takes their fancy.

no actually I think its the opposite. When with one partner, you become comfortable enough to express your likes, your dislikes, your fantasies, and work with each other to fullfill them all.
With multiple partners you never get to that point.

It's not hard to be faithful if you really love your spouse.
You probaly shouldn't get married then if that's the way you think
