Ok, as i was coming home wednesday nite, i realized that my compass on my mirrow, wasnt displaying ( 2007 chevy malibu) and so i went to push the mirror button, but instead, i pushed onstar emergency, and of course they ask you what your emergency is, and we told them that we pushed the wrong button, but do they record when you push the emergency button kind of like a 911 hang up?

Explaining you pushed the wrong button is fine. If you didn't explain and just hung up you may be cruising along and all of a sudden they call you, a voice comes out of your speakers "Onstar emergency, did you call?" I have to use the emergency button sometimes when I'm working on a vehicle with an Onstar problem. The first thing I say is'This isn't an emergency, I'm calling from Smith Chevrolet working on Mr. Smith's vehicle...'--they understand. Is it recorded? A record book is kept but I don't see jail time in your future.

They are a service provided by Chevy, they are a middleman to emergency services. It will be recorded with Onstar, but not with the PD. You wont be getting a visit from a police officer about your accidental button hit. It is not that big of a deal....

Actually they record everything big brother is watching. As soon as they talk the recorders are on and if the air bag go's off they know how much G force was experienced So if your unconscious they can dispatch emergency medical personal fire and ambulance. In the event of a check engine light like engine overspeed repetedly like taking your Corvette to the race track. On-Star may call you to ask a couple questions "sir we see your GPS posistion why are you driving so fast?" Yes they know how much where and when. And promptly void your warranty.
