Early on, after the '06 elections, Limbaugh stated that the Republicans had drifted away from their conservatism and indeed this accounted for the losses. This came from Limbaugh a day or two after the elections, his thoughts were carried in the NYT's.

Democrats gained the majority because Americans were dis-satisfied with Republican performance, Iraq, scandals, fiscal irresponsibility.

Then, after the election, Democratic leadership has made Iraq the central issue.

Would congress and the democrats been better served if they tried to create a closer ties to the white house on Iraq while diplomatically pointing out the failed foreign policy, worked on creating a scandal free congress, Campaign finance reform, a balanced budget, and pressure for appropriate diplomacy, and soft issues in war such as better pensions and health care for the troops? I think so

Dems are pandering to the lefty loony base during a primary season as usual...once the primaries are over they'll pander to the moderates, as usual. It's just business as usual.

Democrats gained too insignificant a majority to carry anything you named.
Its really up to the White House to extend the olive branch to Congress, the White House, after all, has final say on the laws sent to it for its approval. Especially when you have situation where a presidential veto cannot be overturned.
Bush was and is famous for his "my way or the highway'' philosophy. He does not want to 'work with' any other group or any other side. Its just him. Clinton did such a good job, because, despite the public personal flogging he took, he worked with a Congress that still took pride its its ability to function.
Yes, Congress and the Democrats, and the country for that matter, would have been better served if the White House had closer ties to Congress. But this President is intransigent. And so no one in the world is better off.

No, although the Democrats in congress have low poll numbers, it is because the people are angry that they will not stand up to Bush and tell him that he gets no more funds for his war profiteering experiment. The polls also show that the same people want the Democratic party to have control of the next congress too.

Rush Limbaugh has no clue what he is talking about. The republican party hasn't been conservative in decades. The facts show that in the last 60 years republican presidencies have brought us nothing but expanded government and record highs in deficit spending.

Well, your first problem is that you LISTEN to Limbaugh. The guy is the most conceited, ignorant imbicile on the radio. The most important issue our country faces to date is the war. The administration that we've had for 6+ years has not done a damn thing other than put us in debt that will last for the next 100 years, so what are you ripping on the Democratic controlled congress for? SCOOBY FRICKING DOO!

Yes as a Democrat I agree with you. I cant understand how a small portion of my party can express so much power.
An example of this is:

Their are 3.2 million MoveOn.org members and 72 million registered democrats. How does this organization spread so much fear in our party. Is it time to take an organizations like this out of the political process so that our Democratic party can focus on the issues that affect our party and the rest of the nation?

They did pass bills to get better health care for the troops. It was shortly after the mess at Walter Reed. As for creating closer ties to the White House, what makes you think Bush wants that? He has vetoed plenty of stuff that has nothing to do with Iraq. I am not defending the Democrats actions, as some of them have been questionable, but Bush is just as much to blame if not more.

hate to bust your bubble:
the democrats took seats last November precisely and primarily BECAUSE of the peoples will to LEAVE Iraq

59% of the American public want OUT of Iraq NOW
72% want OUT of Iraq within then next 2 years.

maybe when the cons lose even more seats next year this will FINALLY become clear.

soft issues? like maybe guaranteeing troops a minimum amount of leave time following an active deployment? guess what - the cons in congress wouldn't even give them that.

Actually, I agree with you partially. I think that 08 will still go okay because momentum is on their side, but in the 2010 and 2012 elections they better have accomplished the things you list, or else the public will vote them right back out.

The election is over a year away. Whatever is happening now will be long forgotten. The events of next June-Sept will dictate who gets elected.

I think it would be great if any Congress, Democratic or Republican, would embrace such an agenda. But they never have and never will. The majority of their energy is spent getting reelected and they have nothing left for statesmanship.

Sean and Rush said this would happen. The Dems. have the lowest approval rating in the history of Congress. The President's numbers are beginning to climb. Citizens are seeing that Iraq is improving.

Dems. are done in 2008. Hopefully they will be reduced to 3rd party status.
