An old commander in my USN patrol squad (long time ago) used to say to us that "excuses and answers (many of them dumb answers) are like...(lets say a part from your rear end that you can describe with the letters A H), everyone has one!
On the other hand an old professor from my university used to tell us " there are no dumb answers, only dumb questions" so go figure.
