We American liberals want to destroy marriage too but we took the route of wanting anyone and anything to be able to wed regardless of gender and species.

Gabriele wants to renegociate after 7 years. She has been divorced twice is probably the reason why. This would save her money on divorce lawyers.

Why yes she would.

As would these "people"...

Achtung! Germany drags homeschool kids to class
News – A Nazi-era law requiring all children to attend public school, to avoid "the emergence of parallel societies based on separate philosophical convictions" that could be taught by parents at home apparently is triggering a Nazi-like response from police. Children have been forcibly hauled to public school.

That would mean that first marriages in the US would last three years longer than they currently do,since the average length of a first marriage in the US is about 4 years. In fact it might not be such a bad idea for the US,make the marriage term 7 years, with no divorce being available until that 7 year point, then perhaps we wouldn't have everyone getting divorced after 2 or 3 years because of what should have been nothing more than a rough patch as it were. It's way too easy to get divorced right now,so many marriages end at a few years over some minor bad time, that previous generations would have worked through and then went on with the next 40 to 50 years of their marriage.

This justs show how dumb you Americans are about Europe. She is a member of the conservative Christian CSU party. She simply wants to make it easier for divorces to go through the courts. It has nothing to do with putting a time limit on marriages. Simply put, if after 7 of of marriage the relationship is not working there will be a means in law to break the relationship without the usual divorce proceedings.

Here is the article in german but I don't expect that the average American can actually speak another language - I mean they have enough trouble with English

While I don't think this is a good idea, I don't see why it couldn't be considered. 50% of marriages end in divorce anyway, so maybe a way out without a messy fight would make sense for some people. Maybe for anyone 21 and below you can only get a 7 year or less marriage, and then after that you can go for a regular lifetime contract. That might actually lower the overall divorce rate...

Gulianni would embrace that idea wholeheartedly.

These republican high and mightys always have the sancity of marriage in mind
But when a democrat DOESN'T GET A DIVORCE
shes weak?
Or when a wife sticks up for her husband ---he's weak?

Gee no wonder the gays are trying to "destroy marriage"

I mean, if its going to be that the only "good" marriages are the ones between hypocrites, who needs them ?

She forms part of a Christian conservative party. She is a politician from Bavaria! Over 90% of its people are Roman Catholic. Why does it seem that more politicians on the Republican side have gone through more divorces?

No, she rather would make a universal realist.
And perhaps even help married people getting serious.

It is marriage, a secular thing unlike matrimony.
You should stay closer to the issue instead of
pointlessly speculating about her intentions.

I think - every five years a reality check is not bad.

There is no data to support that democrats have a higher rate of divorce than republicans. All republican front runners for '08 have admitted to adultery and have had at least one divorce in their pasts.
