I enjoy being on my own, after years of a bad marriage its great to feel safe in my own home, I prefer the dogs company as they don't let me down, don't make me feel bad, and I know I can trust them completely. That's more than I can say for a lot of people.

I am 56 and have worked my job for over 30 years. I volunteered for third shift two years ago to get away from the stress and pressures of day shift. I enjoy the quieter time even at work. It is great for me to have the day time free. I can do my yard work, flowers, etc without anybody stopping by because they saw me outside. The 24 hour variety stores make it great for people like us. I can get up in the middle of the night and do most of my shopping.I guess at this time in my life I am partied and peopled out. I enjoy my alone time. I have a wonderful dog. It is going to take alot for me to ever give up this kind of freedom.

"Grandpa" How lucky can you
be!!! I am a ferry nut ever since I lived in Seattle for a few years. I've wanted to move on
up to BC, but it's so expensive
up there now, there's no chance. Tell us about your
Ferry rides...these people probably don't know how great they are.
Answering the question:
Sometimes I just don't want
to see anyone...like today.
I'm socializing on here.

I'm like many here - I lived a full life with a full house 24x7 for many, many years..Now that I live alone with male feline and have gotten used to this luxury along with talent of 'cooking for one' it is simply SO nice...
Yes, I have long term, great friends with whom I shop, go to the movies, eat out, but often I opt out just to stay home and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Perhaps many of them were forced to be out in the world ie jobs, kids, other committments, etc. Now, when they can really decide what they want to do they can stay home and be left the heck alone...which is all they really wanted in the first place...just a thought.....and....I can hardly wait 'til it's my time 'cause I know that this will be my choice, lol....

The rat race wore our butts out for one thing.
We enjoy the quiet & have hobbies or projects that we may have put off for years.
I enjoy hiking alone for that very reason.
But mainly because we can!
Well! Some of us can. I still have to wear my backsides out.

Roxy says it best for me. My dog and myself are just fine without all the outside interference. I have freinds I visit sometimes but they have lives too.

I think that it is due to the lack of respect that is shown to the elderly today. Many feel unappreciated and have a low self esteem. Its sad when I think of the wisdom that these people have and we neglect them and the wisdom.
