What is altona Melbourne like to live in??

My husband and I are moveing to melbourne from the UK. We are currently lookin in the inner western suburbs. But as we don't know the suburbs I am looking for any handy hints or options of the areas. Also we both work in hospitality and we don't want to travel too far for work. If there alot of work in these areas?

I dont know altona, but my friend moved to Melbourne for good last January 07, they are expected back in 4 weeks, tehy hate it. He has a trade and she was accountant and both had good jobs ect. but, hate it back soon. Good luck
