A cool cloth until you can see the doctor. He`ll give you some antibiotic drops to help it heal. Don`t worry, alot of babies do this and it doesn`t bother them in the least. I had my kids in those mittens 24/7 at that age.

I wouldn't be to worried. It sounds like all the other kids that live in my house. No matter how many toys they got or how entertained you seem to have them they always seem to manage to be bored some how. Drawing smiley faces and mustaches is normal... I have a 15 year old friend that still does it. The cutting out the eyes part I am not sure about, but it is just a magazine. Think about it would it be any different if you found that your son was cutting out clothes he liked in it?

I believe vaseline can help, BUT I don't know if that should be done without asking a doctor first. The main reason I'm replying is this: my son has always been an escape artist - diapers, clothes, play areas, you name it and he's gotten out of it. This includes the little mitts. They don't stay on very well. If you're afraid to clip his nails, ask the dr to show you how. You can pick up a few baby emory boards to help file them down, too. It's best to get the nails as short and blunt as possible and then put mitts on - that way, if they do fall off, there isn't as much chance of scratches.

Just don't worry that's all. The main thing is the doc will make sure there is no infection, which he probably don't have because I have had an eye infection and it HURT! Maybe eye drops, or antibiotics. probably not a patch. It shouldn't effect his eyesight. If he had an infection it could possibly effect it but as I said It is unlikely

I'd keep a cool cloth over it and start heading for the doctor's office. This won't be the first time they've seen this. My daughter used to cut herself all the time and we constantly had to keep mittens on her (even though we kept her fingernails cut).
If he's not fussy about it right at the moment, just leave it alone and get to the doctor's office as soon as they open.
Good luck! :)

He will be okay! Why u think they came up with mittens?? for this exact reason!!! if he can tolerate it just put like a damp cloth on it every hour or so, if it gets worse or he gets too fussy then call your doctor. oh yeah- and Congrats on your newborn!!

As he's so young, I would leave his eye until you can see the Doctor. They'll wash it, bandage it and prescribe salve (polysporin for eyes) or something along those lines. The first few doses will sting a bit as it cleans the infection.

Take to a hospital that remains open 24X7. You don't need to wait till the doc opens his/her shop. If you live in USA, simply dial 911.
