When Robert Bailey was attacked at a party by a group of whites he was allegedly beat hit over the head with a beer bottle. Justin Sloan, one of the whites who attacked Bailey at the party, was in fact charged and convicted of battery.

He recieved probation.

I dont know why this doesn't get reported, but that is what happened.

White guys jump black kid - one white guys gets charged with simple assault and gets probation. Black guys jump white kid - all six are charged with attempted murder.

I think the failure of the media report ALL the facts is confusing people.

Ohkatie - true, Bell did have priors. two simple assaults and two for property damage (one incedent resulted in two charges). However, he was also and Honor roll student. But the other 5 had no records, and are still facing the same charge.

It's not that people don't know that the white kid was charged in the case I think its more that they really don't care. I think that our world has gotten so backwards and corrupt that racism is starting to resurface in a bad way.

In most cases if there is a conflict with black and white no matter who started it most people are going to side with the white. I know a lot of people say they are not racist but there just lying to there self because eventually the truth comes out

Ok... The 6 Males That Beat Up Justin Barker Should Be Punished... BUT, At The Same Time 22+ Years In Jail Isn't Fair. What About The White Men That Beat Up The Black Boy At A Party And Hit Him Over The Head With A Beer Bottle? What About The White Male That Pointed His Shotgun At The Young Black Boys That Were At The Convenience Store? Also Yes... Mychal Bell's Lawyer Was Black But He Was A Court Appointed Lawyer That Was Working With D.A. And His Parents Weren't Aware Of It Until AFTER It Was All Said And Done. Those Young Men Need To Be Punished But Their Punishment Now Isn't Fair. Mychal Bell Has Been In Jail For 9 Months Now And I Think That That's More Than Enough Time. He Needs To Be Released.

I heard about that guy's conviction of simple battery and punishment of PROBATION. He had priors too, but never served a day in jail for it.
I consider a broken beer bottle more of a weapon that a sneaker....but that's just me.

I think the fact that some of the other incidents (the gas station/gun/theft of gun, and the party at the fair grounds) are not directly tied to the nooses is what confuses everyone. The same young men are involved, but the other two things don't have anything to do w/ the boys at school. (at least that's how I understood it).

I think for the simple fact that Justin Sloan didn't get as harsh of a penalty as the "Jena 6". It one thing to be sent to jail versus a battery conviction and probation (He still has his freedom). They were really trying to throw a harsh penalty on the "Jena 6" with attempted murder while Justin got a slap on the wrist.

But the media also hides a lot of information, they'll tell you what they want you to know. It's all about creating controversy to get the ratings. But I didn't know about Justin until you mentioned it, and I watch the news daily.

I think that there is a great lack of information in every part of this story but my opinion is how could this still be happening in 2007. I just dont understand how someone can harm someone for nothing just because they dont look the same or have the same preference. I could see in self defense but out of stupid is just wrong. And how can they be charged with attempted murder the kid was fine a few hours later, but there is still lack of info to back any statement i could make. I just cant believe it is 2007 and something like this is going on.

I agree. If this story is going to get so much press time, I think they should come forth with all of the facts, not just the ones that suit their sensational story. Furthermore, I wonder if Justin Sloan had as long a criminal record as Mychal Bell and the other 5 assailants and if that played any part in determining his sentence. Often, judges are more lenient with first-time offenders and it's been proven that Mychal and a few of the others in his group had known violent criminal histories. Also, keep in mind that with the "Jena 6", prosecution always tacks on the most severe charges they can because they know the charges will be negotiated and reduced. I wonder what Justin Sloan's original charges were and what kind of aggrement his lawyers came to with the state.

I think that everyone is in the wrong in this case. The law, the white kids, and the black kids. The law should treat everyone fairly, the white kids should not be racists, ignorant scum, and six guys should not jump on one(That is a crime). I think that the black guys should get in trouble (dont get shitty with me! they did jump a guy), but so should the white guys.

didn't know that cuzo. Thanks for the info. Thats terrible! I blame the media for that. I think the media instigates certain issues, by with-holding information. I've seen stuff happen in my neighborhood, and watched the news reports that night or next day and the report would be totally different than the actual event.

Balck people are their own worst enemy, the ones that realize that are moving ahead in life, the rest wind up dead or in jail, facts and statistics dont lie. No damn white man hod blacks down that is such crap. They choose to be gang bangers and losers then I have no sympathy fo them, I am not racist but I am logical and practicle, and cant understand why people refuse to admit what they see. I think the racism is so tired and old, get over it , lose the gun , go to school ! If u look at whites , the ones that make the same choices have the same lives, its no diffrent. The only people I have seen that are not held accountable for their actions are the illegals in the country. They can rape your wife or kid and get a pat on the back and a paycheck to boot, WTF

Well, I guess there is going to be another civil rights movement again. Why not. America is about to have another depression, the war is in the shitter, times couldn't be worse. One more thing wouldn't hurt on our beeline to the apocalypse.
