Like me you aren't one for a confrontation of any kind. Easier to avoid it altogether.

This sound like it could be anxiety attributed to a particular situation -
In my own experience I would be energetic to apply for jobs and then when the employer would call I would get an anxiety attack before answering the phone - and I could never explain it - it just comes on at that moment and my instinct is to back away and give up the job - as a result Ive turned down about 6 jobs so far - not very admirable - but I cant explain this anxiety myself - luckily I think it is finding something you actually think you may WANT to do and make yourself comfortable in the situation by continually reminding yourself that this is just a experience and you wil have even greater ones - deal in the moment and then in the future you can look back on these times and see how you learned. You stopped going to the internship due to a particular person and being uncomfortable- thats perfectly normal - if your instinct gives you a warning sign, take it - but at the same time dont be overly critical.

It may not be any thing or just a phase you are going through but If it is becoming a problem you might be developing this problem - Avoidant personality disorder (APD or AvPD) [1] or Anxious personality disorder (APD) [2], is a personality disorder characterized by a pervasive pattern of social inhibition, feelings of inadequacy, extreme sensitivity to negative evaluation and avoidance of social interaction. People with avoidant personality disorder often consider themselves to be socially inept or personally unappealing, and avoid social interaction for fear of being ridiculed, humiliated, or disliked. They typically present themselves as loners and report feeling a sense of alienation from society. see this site for more information - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avoidant_personality_disorder

It appears to be an escapist mentality. But don't worry, this can be corrected. All you need to do is to pay some attention to your feelings, no medicines are necessary.

I do that a lot too. I kind of dropped everything and stay away for as long as I can.
