A good filing cabinet works fine,using lots of folders that are labeled.

I bought a calendar that has pockets for each month. When I get the bills I write when they're due and put the bill and the envelope inside the folder. When I pay it I check it off the calendar and put the pay stub in my file folder, in the 'bills paid' folder. If you are as disorganized as I am this will rarely happen...so I also just make a pile every week as I go and then at the end of the week I file them. Without my calendar though I would never get any of my bills done.

A filing cabinet with folder lables. Like one folder for utility bills each month, one for each member of the family for documents, one for instruction manual and corrosponding reciepts and documents for major purchases.
Every six months clean out the filing cabinet, get rid of utility bills that are more than six months old and any documents that are no longer relavant and warranties that have expired.
If you can't afford a file cabinet or if you are single and don't need a whole filing cabinet you can get a plastic crate and use hanging files in it instead.

Yes - I'm so scattered it's ridiculous. I throw it all in a box but the most recent bills which I immediately take to my computer or stick in my purse so I'll take it to work. Then I log onto my online bank acct and set up pmt for it. Then about once every 3 mos or so, I go through what's left in the box. You'd be surprised what goodies I've found. It's a very bad system.

OH YES,VERY MUCH SO. I GOT SO DISORGANIZED THAT MY HUSBAND MADE ME I BOX OUT OF WOOD AND PUT A LOCK ON IT THAT WAY I WOULD HAVE ALL MY BILLS IN IT. MY LETTERS AND OTHER THINDS I JUST USED A SHOEBOX. I KNOW THE FEELING HUN. OLD BOXES DO COME IN HANDY. JUST WRITE IN MARKER WHAT IS WHAT.HOPE THIS HELPS YOU
