I don't think you can tell when men are gay by the way they dress. There are a few gay men in our group of friends and I don't see any difference in the way they dress.

Actually, you DON'T know men are gay by the way they dressed. I could parade some gay men past you and you would have no idea they were gay. Therefore you wouldn't be able to tell if a woman was lesbian either.

First of all, I doubt you can tell a gay man by the way he dresses.
You have to account for "metrosexuals," who dress in a stereotypically 'gay' fashion, yet are straight. They dress that way to attract women, I'm told.
Most gay men are indistinguishable from any straight man. For example, Ian McKellan, the man who plays Gandalf & Magneto in the movies, is gay. The cross-dressing comedian Eddie Izzard, on the other hand, is straight.
Anyway, the only real way to determine someone's sexuality is to get to know them, and actually discuss the matter.

Why is this so important to you? I am a gay man and nobody know that unless I tell them as is the same of most of my gay friends, you can tell if a guy is gay by the way he acts I E his mannerisms, ect, a girl well the very same applies, you get a butch girl and you can guess she is probable a lesbian but not always then their is girls that dress very lady like that are lesbians also. does that answer your question?

No you don't know when men a gay from the way they dress. You might make a guess at the odd one or two but most don't dress any different to anyone else

So, you can tell a gay guy, by the way he is dressed??
Really!!!
So, what about the ones that walked by you, that you didn't think was gay?
Oops! .... They weren't 'dressed gay', so you thought they were straight!!
Same goes for women!!
Its NOT what a person wears, that makes them gay you know!?
In fact WOW... a lot of transvestites and transsexuals are heterosexual!!!

That's because you aren't allowed to have a copy of our handy, dandy Bi and Lesbian Handbook. I left mine at home one day and I accidentally wore a lesbian shirt and since I'm bi I got flagged for a 15 yard penalty.
You seriously think you can tell a person's sexual preference by the way they dress?

I guess I'll have to stop wearing my short, tight skirt and my long earrings. Maybe also stop using my high heels and excessive mascara. However, no one has realized
before that I'm gay and I guess you must think I'm gay just because I'm in the LGBT section of Y/A.
I just want to be inconspicuous. What can I do?

What else can you tell about someone's attitude in bed by the way they dress? Is there a specific style for people who like curvy women or tall men? You must be psychic...

There's no cut and dry rule for anyone.
My bet is you can't actually tell if men are gay by the way they dress either. I've known VERY straight men who dress exceptionally well...dapper is what my grandmother would have said and I've known gay men who are slobs.
