that we didn't have enough money to fix the car. When I spoke to her she mocked me and didn't understand that I was upset. I have a car with almost 150,000 miles and the engine light has been on for over a month. I am getting the car fixed and will not go to the theater.

What should I do?

She's an idiot! By all means, go the the theater! You can let the car stop running and commute to work for a while. When she starts complaining about not having access to the car start singing one of the songs from the "Barber of Seville"

Forget the car...she needs to be hit over the head with a piece of rebar for spending $500 on theater tickets. How stupid!

That is plain crazy. Why would she do that? She has her priorities mixed up. The car will get you back and forth to work. Those $500 theater tickets, well, you know where I'm going with this ...

So I am taking a leap here and assuming that you want a sort of affirmation that it is perfectly all right to be the man in your home.

Well, it is perfectly all right to be the man, take charge of the finances and let your spendthrift wife know that the tickets need to be returned and the cash used to better advantage.

It is also perfectly all right to let her know that this was irresponsible and should have been discussed before she did such a thing!

What you should do is accept the fact that you married a women who possesses skewed financial priorities, who has never been introduced to the phrase, "business before pleasure". I recommend you work out an arrangement with her wherein you control the family's finances, and you should do this soon in order to avoid bankruptcy.

take the main amount of money from your account and put into one with just your name and make sure your check goes to the new one and then you will have to give her money for the bigger needs that comes up. theres no way i would go to the theater either, and i would try to sell the other ticket.
