Why do people convince themselves that there is a god?
Could we all be just a bunch of matter created by luck and coincidences? Is there really a heaven or hell, or do we just go back into Nothingness from which we came?
How could god have always existed forever?
So what really did create us, God, or Evolution?
What is the ultimate Answer to these Questions? (Don't say 42)

I'll start by saying I am an atheist myself, and don't believe any of the stuff I am about to argue. However:

The truth of evolution does not preclude the existance of a god, it only precludes a literal interpretation of the bible.

If the bible states that God created the world from nothingness 6,000 years ago (of course, it doesn't actually state this outright, it is all interpretation), and mainstream science says that the universe was created in the Big Bang over 14 billion years ago (that the earth coalesced from clouds of matter about 4.6 billion years ago, that terrestrial life first arose perhaps 4 billion years ago, and that Homo sapiens humans didn't evolve until 2000,000 years ago), then we have a problem.
If you believe that a creator-being, outside conventional space/time and therefore effectively omniscient, initiated the Big Bang and, just perhaps, did so in such a way that humanity could and would eventually evolve on a planet somewhere in there. Well - there's no problem at all.
Something similar to this second idea is what most scientists who are christians would subscribe to.

The issue of a god who has always existed can similarly be answered by this second suggestion: if God exists outside normal space/time (but able to interact with it), then there is no "forever" for him to exist *in*. A bit like you looking at a bit of paper, and being able to draw on any part of it you want. Any hypothetical 2D creature whose existance involved inexorably travelling from one edge to the other would be confused by your ability to draw in his "past" and "future", and to see where he was travelling to.

The existance of an "afterlife" of any sort depends entirely on the existance of a "soul" or similar, which can survive the death of our physical bodies. If these souls are, somehow, made of the same stuff as our hyperdimensional god, but are "trapped" in our universe, unable to perceive the larger reality outside, until our deaths, then that answers the issue. If this were the case, the "heaven" or "hell" would consist of being able to see your actions in their entirety on display in the universe. All your indiscretions, and all your triumphs would be visible to everyone out there.

Depending on your beliefs and the circumstances that influenced your thinking, God is the source of all creation and as part of the created, we are the unique beings in the sense that we are given souls. Evolution is just the scientific facts as understood by mere logic that we came from the apes due to the morphological or even physiological similarities. If you look at the Evolutionary process and the similarities that we have with different organims (from the simplest to the most complex) despite the modifications due to the adaptive response, we all share one common instinct: the will to survive because every organism has the right to live. Where do you think these instincts came from? Why do you think all the organisms are somehow connected with each other, despite the differences. Everything is created including Science itself. God made it possible for man to understand the world that he's living in to find some semblance and also to be responsible for it, sadly, this is far from reality. I know this because of my Faith and beliefs, apart from all the crazy questions about life on earth and why God is like this or why God is like that, there are just some questions that are left unanswered because life itself is a mystery. If you're looking for signs of God's existence, then why do you think there are apparitions (genuine ones) or unexplainable miracles of people who are very sick and suddenly cured because of Faith. I will not even attempt to influence you on this, because it all depends on what you believe and whether what you believe is sensible or not.

gribblin... gave a very good answer. If you want a balanced view of evolution and its limitations, you must read some responsible writings on the subject of intelligent design.

The ultimate question, is "Is there a God?" and what is God's nature, and what does God expect or demand of man. That is a matter of discovery, not of invention or convincing one's self. Most likely, God is outside of time, and created time along with space and the physical universe. This isn't something for you to decide, it's something for you to discover.

I really don't know what are in the minds of people who consider science and religion as war-causing fields. It's absurd!

OK. Here is my explanation. First, religion and science are totally different fields. Science explains HOW things are made. Religion, however, explains the question WHY things are made. For example, global warming today. How global warming happened can be best explained by science. "It is caused by greenhouse effect and the continuous depletion of the ozone layer." Why this is happening can be best explained by religion. God is already giving us a sign that we are already abusing the earth.

Another thing is about heaven. For me, heaven is a state. A state of peace. Once your at peace, you are already in heaven.

you're asking in spite of if a god like being ought to evolve by way of organic tactics? Very uncertain, fairly a god who's all-powerful, one that innately breaks the regulation of non-contradiction. A being you planned to be god that developed by way of organic tactics and wasn't defined with self contradicting features may well be plenty plenty greater probably to exist than one that did no longer tho.

It's not meant for us to figure out everything from where God came from. All we know is that he has been here forever and will continue to be. If he says that there is a heaven and hell, that's all I need to know.
