Ideally, you should charge any kind of rechargable battery, whether it's for an mp3 player, cell phone, cordless phone, etc. when the power has been FULLY drained, and you should only leave it charging for around the time it takes to fully recharge the battery (so leaving your iPod or mp3 player to charge overnight is not a great idea). It's also not a good idea to partially charge it instead of waiting out the complete recharge, because this also cuts the battery life short if you do it frequently.

The reason is continuous charging strains the power cells in the battery, so by actually overcharging the battery, you end up cutting it's life shorter, and it will need to be replaced much sooner than normal. That's what happened to me with my first mp3 player a few years ago; I charged it whenever I felt like it, and it needed a new $70 battery within 4 months of me getting it (and 90% of the time your manufacturer's warranty DOES NOT cover replacing the battery; you have to pay for that out of your own pocket).

Also, if you have a docking speaker for your iPod or mp3 player, LIMIT IT'S USE, because all docking stations charge your battery during use and the function cannot be turned off. I've seen too many customers come back to Best Buy a few months after they bought their iPods from us because they leave their iPods on the docking stations and blow out the battery in no time.

By being very specific in how and when you recharge your battery will help you get months and months of use out of your iPod or mp3 player.

Ipod is the main generally happening MP3 participant. different manufacturers make their very own mp3 participant like sony etc. Mp3 is a variety of audio report so an mp3 participant is purely something that can shop and play mp3's. Oh definite and Ipods can do extra issues as properly, the recent nano (the smallest one with a demonstrate) now has a digicam, the Ipod touch has a sprint demonstrate and might hook up with the information superhighway, and the Ipod classic has an exceedingly vast complicated force on your movies. All Ipods apart from the shuffle (which has no demonstrate) can play movies (normally mp4's) as properly.

Kat,

That used to be true with the old Nickle-cad batteries that would build up a memory in then.

However, with the new Lithium-Ion batteries, you only need to "train" your battery (drain it completely then recharge) twice, then you can charge it as much as you want without damage.

i make sure i charge my ipod every night. if you use it until the battery runs out and turns off, it can cause your battery to go bad. i never had a problem with my battery and i've had it for 1 and1/2 years.
