to be fair with filipinos, the term was just coined to us bc maybe we're in the philippines. But i have heard some other nation have that "tardiness"traits too, but it's not called filipino time.
to set an hour or two earlier is a good tactic by others, but those who are punctual get mad and assumed the next time they go to such venue, they deliberately "late" themselves.

I do not set false schedules, and all my friends know I will leave when the person I am meeting is not there on time. I do not even take "traffic" as an excuse.

I take pains going to an appointment with a generous allowance for traffic. I end up being early for meetings, and I have mastered the art of coping with this - - - I go to a nearby coffee shop.

We should all influence change by being on time ourselves, and never allowing other people to waste our time.

If there was a way to end "Filipino time", it would have been done many years ago. I think it is now part of the Filipino culture to arrive at a celebration at a later time and make a grand entrance. This not only happens to ordinary people like you and me, it also happens to the famous - like the President who is always waited upon before an event or ceremony starts. Whether we like it or not, Filipino time is here to stay.

Lol, I think it's understood at Filipino parties that it really starts 2 hours after whatever it says on the invitation. And then the non-Filipinos show up on time and the food isn't ready/hosts are not there yet. Too funny. I don't think things are going to change any time soon.

"Filipino time" denotes tardiness and has been coined because Filipinos usually come late for a meeting or an activity. To put an end to it, Filipinos should learn how to manage their time and be able to arrive, at the least, on time for their commitments. By so doing, "filipino time" will soon be deleted from our vocabulary.

i let my hubby put my watch a few minutes ahead without my knowledge..and now i always think my deadline as half hour earlier than the actual so i will have time readjusting what needs to be refined..and you are right "filipino time" is not confined to filipinos. i know of people of different races who are even worse. but then it is worst when you don't call in to say you won't be coming. it is time lost big time for the one waiting

Impossible............it will never happen. I have a Filipino Step Mother, I have a Filipino wife. Both are very loving and honest people, and my wife and I are very happy. But I still give the constant reminder "Come-on, we're going to be late", or "you know we have to leave in 10 minutes".

i assume you're referring to tardiness of some Filipinos in scheduled appointments. this is something i believe we acquired from the Spaniards, having been under their rule for more than four centuries, who also approved the culture of siesta or afternoon naps. having said that, i advise against setting or agreeing to appointments between 12 noon and 3p.m. if your lineage, however, is from a farming clan, i suggest you make or set appointments after dawn. farmers usually are up at this time.

discipline and at least "try" our best to remove this crab mentality of bringing down and degrading our "Filipino ways". we tend to be sensitive with criticisms, and we are "so sarcastic". the more other people point out to us our "misgivings" instead of correcting them, the more we are set of rebelling to it and i have no idea where and when did we inherit this kind of attitude. so again, i repeat, discipline only. i am a Filipino and will always be proud to be one, Mabuhay!!! and got to go, i am late with my meeting, hehehe! one of the traits i love about us, ups and downs, we always find something to laugh about....

It's not only Filipino time. Other cultures have the same concept of time.
