i m running a web server using windows xp for my assignment, i would like to do so testing so that people outside my local area network can access my web server, then i can detect which user has accessed to it, as i know there is a way that using my external ip with a specified port number to access it, any idea how to do it??

i did all the suggest steps like disable both the windows and router firewall, add server internal ip to DMZ, but still cannot!!! y?

you would want to place the IP address of your server in your routers DMZ. This will allow anyone with your external IP address to access the server.

All external IP addresses can be accessed from Internet if they are not blocked by firewalls. In your case this might be the Gateway machine or the firewall machine defending your Lan. You need to open ports in the firewall. Setup NAT rules if it is a packet filter so that your server machine with internal IP can receive the packets from external IP. Get in touch with whoever manages your firewall.

u might b doing right but u forgot to disable 2 firewalls

one is ur router
and one is the windows firewall

disable both
