two things will happen, you will carry on winning trophies 2 every season, in which case he wasn't that SPECIAL, or you go back to being a bunch of nearly rans with overpaid prima-donnas.
or maybe there is a third scenario called the "ken bates downfall" which basically is the owner pays the manager to a job and butts out or you drop 2 divisions, the names david o'leary, rio ferdinand, arjen robben, schevchenko and alan smith spring to mind.

THINK WILL HAPPEN - go back to being a bunch of nearly rans with overpaid prima-donnas.
WANT TO HAPPEN - "ken bates downfall" that would be a funnier than what happened to Leeds.

Remember the first 4 years of SAFs reign. Man U fans weren't exactly deafened by the sound of silverware. So winning 6 trophies in three seasons is quite special.
However to the question dear heart, and I think that RA will lose the plot with Avram Grant, as Grant takes them to levels of mediocrity not seen since Wigan joined the Premiership.
When he loses the plot, he will turn to either Lippi or Capello (as he should have done to start with) and chuck another £180M at him to produce the goods.
Chelsea, like it or not, are too good to go down, and are lucky that is the case.
However Chelsea will face a players' rebellion come January, and they won't get half the monies paid otu for the team. From this point on that is what will determine what happens in 08/ 09.
You mention Schevchenko, I think think of worse players to build an attacking team round.
Anyway, title to Liverpool, Man U runners up, Arsenal 3rd Chelsea 4th. Spurs should be in 4th but I think it is going to take Jol a couple of more months to sort this one out.

The only reason Chelsea have won anything in the last five years is money. The fact that JM got them to play together is almost incidental. That sort of thing is down to the coach mostly. If you can afford to keep 5 world class players on the bench, then any half decent manager should be successful. The guys like Allerdyce and O'Neill managing clubs and having a fair amount of success (on limited budgets), are the guys who are "special" not some arrogant Potuguese whinger. Chelsea won't go down until the Russian goes, but they won't win anything either. Don't think that JM will be in the country for long. The only clubs that can afford him have settled managers and are in the European Championship. Spurs? He wouldn't last a year there. Apart from that, who can afford him? He will be eyeing up some of the big name teams around Europe.

Well Giggsy, I think a bit of all. Depends very much on the next move. Certainly not Grant. and I totally disagree with the chap above me. Money didn't really helped. Two thirds of the buys were duds. List out the top twenty players in the world and you'll be hard pressed to find a blue shirt there. If it was only about the money we know the players that could bring in trophies and return the Ruskie into a pauper simultaneously and believe me they're not twenty-eight yet.

The man never lost a home league match, lets see how long Chelsea keep that record up with Abramovich picking the team. Wenger, Ferguson and Benitiz must be rolling about on the floor laughing!! And Moyes and Hughes must be rubbing their hands with glee.
Watch Chelsea get tanked by Man U at the weekend, and their fans shouting for the owner to try depositing his billions where the sun don't shine.

That's the crux of it really. A lot of clubs do not realise that they are there merely to make up the numbers. They will always be also-rans ( you know which clubs I refer to ). But they continue to try and emulate Utd's success to no avail. You gotta admire them for that.
