Emily is such a pretty name why would you call it "Em"! Horrible! Millie is so much cuter and less common than Emily! But it seems more a baby name than a grown up name so think about her in the future.

I know a few people that have called their kids Shay after Shay Given the newcastle player. If your irish i think it would work but its gonna be one of those names the teacher at school will always ask how do you spell it/how do you pronounce it!

I like the idea of calling her Emily so you can shorten it to Millie but I just don't like the name Emily! When I was pregnant with my first child I had the same idea but chose Amelia or Amelie instead. It is ultimately up to you and if you really like a name don't be put off by what others think. There will always be someone who doesn't like the name you love! I'm not sure of the name Shay but only cos it reminds me of the goalkeeper Shay Given! Although I used to think he was quite hot!

And also remember that no matter what name you pick, the child will probably hate it anyway!!!!

Good luck!

I think you have to think about how the name stands up to ageing Emily is good because she can be Millie when she is a baby, Her mates can call her Em when she gets a bit older and Emily is a nice old lady name? Now put that to use when thinking of a boys name.

Emily is a really common girls name at the moment so as long as you don't mind her being in a class with up to 3 other Emilys.

I quite like Shay for a boy.

Hi,

I love the name Emily - my boyfriend and I will be naming our future daughter Emily .... although we spelling it Emilie. We also like Emila.

You can also spell Emily as Emalee. You can spell Millie as Milli or Milly.

I not over keen on Shay but it your baby and your choice. For a boy my boyfriend and I have three choices.. top ones at the moment seems to be Samuel, Elijah and Joshua.

We also like all the following names for boys ...

Adam
Bailey
Cameron
Colby
Elijah
Elliot
Harry
Issac
James
Joshua
Joshiah
Jacob
Luca
Lucas
Luke
Matthew
Nathan

For a girl we like

Shay is short for the name Seamus. It has many variants such as Shae, Shaye and Shey.

There is also Shaya and Shayan.

Like Emily or Millie, not to keen on Shay, but at the end of the day it is your choice, and life would be very dull if we all choose the same names for our children!

Emily is fine - not a name I would choose but it's an OK name. I really don't like Millie - reminds me of that cookie shop or an old seamstress. But Emily is good.

I really don't like Shay. It doesn't sound like a name.
