I don't like butch women but a yahoo member gave me an website which she hoped make me understand them more www.butch-femme.com
Anyway I went on the site and it's made me even more scared and disgusted by Butch women. These women act like men and don't even like to be called her, they use hym. I don't understand why these femme women don't just get a better looking MAN than a woman trying to be a man. I'm more scared of Butch women now as they freak me out even more. Is this normal? do I need help for being against a group

I have not interacted much with butch women . I do beleive to each his own .There are gonna people who are butch who are we to tell them it is wrong .

I could be very well off base. I am stretching here. Abutch woman is a woman physicaly but mentaly very masculine .

Now men growing up go through a socilization process about how far to take masculine behaviors and impulses. Were sort of like puppies growing up.One puppy may nip the other puppy to hard and he yelps or bites back . The puppies learn limits this way .

I am bigger than some guys and smaller than some guys .We guys have been puppies once . We guys have figuartively nipped at each other and know what hurts and what doesnt . In short we know what is appropriate masculine behavior and what is over the top and out of bounds.

A butch women has all those impulses that a guy has . She has not gone through the "puppyhood" us men have and knows no bounds and does not consider what may or may not be over the top or inapropriate.

A butch women may percieve men as intruding on there territory .She may percieve us as going after females she wants .

Two guys even though they want the same women most often will not come to blows or even be excessivley angry that another male is interested in the same female as them .

A butch may escalate rapidly if exposed to those same impulses .

Most men tend to have labrador or golden retriever temperments .

Butch women would do well to emulate that temeprment profile .

If you really wanted to learn more about butches you could have just asked this question in the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered forum. Just like many other marginalized groups have a very rich and varied culture that others know nothing about, the same is true of lesbians and gays.

There's quite a bit of history around being butch. Since gay and lesbian couples were closeted until the 1960's and 1970's, there really wasn't any open discussion of what a gay/lesbian relationship was like, so in the 1950's, some women (not all) took the "masculine" butch role and some took the "feminine" fem role. But even then, lots of women had a relationship that was not based on rigid sex roles. In the 1960's, some lesbians couples still played the rigid sex roles, like heterosexual couples did.

But in 1969, the Stonewall Riots occurred in Greenwich village, when once again the NY police raided a gay bar. But this time the drag queens (some gay men like to dress in "feminine" attire, so do non-gay men) and butches fought back. It was the first time that anyone knew about that gays/lesbians fought against the unjustness of being a targeted group. These two groups, butch lesbians, and drag queens, are the most likely targets of anti-gay violence and discrimination, since they are obviously not following the social norms of society. Butches and drag quees are also the most visible as being gay, and therefore are the most likely targets for gay and lesbian hatred.

So it takes a lot of guts to be a butch lesbian or a drag queen in our society, then, and now. But many butches are not women trying to be men. They love women and are attracted to women. They like dressing in a way that society has labeled as "masculine". And some act in a way that society has labeled as "masculine". I don't see what the big deal is-so they want to dress differently and/or act differently-why is that threatening or disgusting? How are they anymore of a threat than a man?

In addition, quite a few women are labeled butch, and therefore lesbian, who are not. If a woman wants to dress more comfortably, if a woman wants to perform a non-traditional job for a woman (like welder or forester), she will have to dress in a way that is appropriate for the job. These women are often labeled as lesbians or butches or man-haters, when they just are doing their jobs.

Anti-lesbian prejudice and rigid sex role enforcement are very effective tools to limit women's choices: women are "punished" if they dress in a "non-feminine" way, or if a woman chooses a job that a woman doesn't usually do, or if a woman chooses to do a job that involves heavy labor or working outdoors or involves getting filthy. Somehow, men and women have forgotten that the majority of Americans were farmers until recently, and both men and women were expected to work hard, get dirty, and perform many "untraditional" tasks.

In this country, in the majority of states, it is legal to not hire or to fire someone because you are "perceived" to be gay, or actually are gay. You can state the reason you fired them as they're gay, and it's legal in the majority of states. Look at the military, they fire people every day for being gay.

Butches pay a heavy price for being openly gay. They can be denied employment or fired, just for the way they look. Doesn't sound very fair, does it? Guess the pursuit of life, liberty, happiness, and property are only available for you if you look "acceptable" and act in a way that is "expected" in America.

A pretty discriminatory attitude...wouldn't you say?

Unless these women are inflicting themselves on your life personally, why would you have a problem with them? It is their life, and they choose to act in a way that pleases them. As long as you are not directly affected, I see no reason for you to be frightened or disgusted.

I'm not going to go so far as to suggest an open mind here, but I do think that we all need to respect others for the ways they choose to live their lives. Just as you expect respect for the way you choose to live yours. Perhaps they find you equally distasteful...

Someone who doesn't accept being their own gender has significant psychological issues, no matter what the present politically correct answer is. I feel sorry for that person (man or woman) but to try to get society to accept that as "normal" is a big mistake.

Most cultures from the beginning of history have had taboos against sex with the same gender. That type of taboo is necessary for the normal psycho sexual development in children and adolescents.

The reason that you feel "disgusted", is that you have had a normal and healthy psycho sexual development. You are supposed to feel disgusted by this.

When I took my Abnormal Psych in 1972, homosexuality and lesbianism were classified as "sexual deviance's" by both the American Psychological Association and the American Psychiatric Association. That is now changed but not because any new knowledge was discovered.

The classifications were changed as a "political" action by the Homosexual Lobby and because so many psychologists are homosexuals.

It is also part of the agenda of culture change by those people who want no one to criticise anything about anything sexual but also want actual "words" that are used to disagree with their position, illegal.

I hope something that I have said is helpful.

Butch women are pretty irrelevant to society. Just a bunch of angry and frustrated women suffering from Penis Envy that want to be men. I guarantee all of those butch women on that website (I haven't looked) label themselves "feminists".

By the way, it's "wannabe", not "want to be".
