I seriously doubt that there were any cricketing reasons due to which he resigned. It has more to do with the rift within the team with some of the seniors camping on one side. Also with the captain having little or no say in selection process, it severely hampers him and prevents him from fully utilizing the resources at the team's disposal. And then Rahul Dravid is a perfectionist who likes to do things in the right way which doesn't gel with the Indian Cricket estbl who have their own ad hoc and crude ways of dealing with situations. The same happened with Greg Chappel who was a straight thinking, straight talking guy which our system couldn't accept. This is the bane of not only Indian cricket but the Indian society at large.

He has been subject to lot of criticism after the debacle in the world cup and after that each and every action of his was subject to criticism by the media as well as by the public. He very well know that his captaincy is not at all permanent and he may be sacked from Captaincy any time in future. Instead of getting sacked he may have thought that it is better to resign on his own when his performance as Captain is good. he got an ideal opportunity for that after winning test series against england and he used the same judiciously by resigning.

Rahul handed back the Indian cricket captaincy because some of the enjoyment had been leached out of his game.

Because there is no support from senior players. Captain needs full support from the team.
