You wanna be a street fighter? That's crazy. Jessica is out of school becuase she doesnt follow rules - to fight someone who doesnt follow rules is dangerous. If someone simply falls wrong, and hits there head they can die - it happens often. So its serious and stupid thing to start a fight, or even be in one.
First thing I'd learn how to fall without hurting yourself firstly, the ground is hard and unforgiving so when you learn how to control falling you might also learn how to control how your opponent fall's. If they are going to fight you then make sure you dont let them dictate the 'where' of the fight, you need to be able to move freely, and run if someone pulls out anything more dangerous then a bad attitude.
Wide shoulders are one thing which is not particularily Feminine, so if you've got a narrow top frame then some musculature will not make you look like a guy too much.

First off Nick may have been in the wrong .However it seems as though your freind would not let the issue drop .Your friend may have even escalated it .
The fact your friend has been warned doesnt mean a fight is going to happen . In fact it is a growl .
Understand growling . Growlig or barking is a deterrent .Understand the concept of back the f2ck off. Just drop the issue .
Repeat after me "I will drop the issue it is not worth pursuing "
My personal take on this is your friend is not as innocent as she claims to be .
Repeat after me "there are always two sides to a story "
Repeat after me "violence is to be used as a last resort"
Repeat after me " i shall not seek out violence nor should i revel in the prospect of violence "
Your friend needs to take a good long hard look at herself in the mirror
I bet that your friend kept doing something to this Nick till he had to do something and so he insulted your friend
Nick may not be the bad guy here
If you pursue this course of action for your friend you most certainly will become the bad guy here even if nick was clearly at fault

Yes absolutely the people in the movies and TV look so buff because they work out as well as do martial arts training a normal fighter will look trimmer but does not gain massive muscles. Fighting is an art of movement and counter movement not strength though it does help.

When you gain a little more wisdom of maturity, you will come to realize that fighting is saved for situations of protection only...save the entertainment aspects for controlled competitions...the strength & femininity that you seek in overcoming the scenario you describe, comes from confidence of Self, not physical power...this reflects an epitome of feminine prowess.
By this I mean that your friend should not allow the words of others to shatter her own self image...these are experiences that provide us the opportunity to rise above & beyond...to become & example a wiser way of being...to be woman, not little girl.
However, to answer your original question...have you ever admired the grace & stature of Eastern women? They are small built, are very feminine, & are raised to be calm, gentle, & poised...most are taught very young in the ways of defense...they understand the human body & it's weaknesses, they also know how to use the science of leverage...in other words, they have the power of knowledge. Check out a woman's martial arts competition sometime...beauty in serious motion...mind, body, & spirit in perfect unison!
Many "small" folks in your realm of youth gain their fighting edge because they have been made to feel inferior in other ways...they feel the need to use physical strength to overcome this, and yes, experience of use brings stealth to action. You seem to judge Jessica by her sexual openess & her body structure (her boobs)...I'm sure the guys are about this, too. Ever stop to wonder why you are so quick to put her down, yet she has attributes you wish to have??? When I was young, I kind of liked these chickies as friends...better to walk down a bad street with them, than to hope they weren't the ones popping out of an alley to get you, yes???LOL
Anyway, I hope you, & your friend, think a little deeper into your goals...maybe you two could join a local dojo...great way to get in & keep a good physical condition, while at the same time, embracing wiser mental attitudes on your way to becoming wonderful women. Good Journey!!!

Violence is a pain in the neck. And other places. But anyway...
If somebody is determined to demolish you, the last thing you should be worried about is whether you look feminine or not. And you can always apply make-up over the bruises...

Can a woman be a good fighter? Sure, against other women.
PS: women don't really get buff. It's very hard for them to gain muscle due to lower levels of testosterone. It's even harder for them to gain too much leg muscle because that's where they store all the fat and fat converts to estrogen.

Women can be anything they want without sacrificing their feminity or sexuality. As a man, I've long studied this social issue for decades---and firmly believe that if women want to go into male dominated social and workplace roles, why not?
They can and do so w/out losing their social or sexual identity.

Err, umm, dude, you answered your own question with your description of Jessica(and quite honestly, you didn't need to include what you perceived to be her bad qualities having to do with what you think she was kicked out of school for, and what you called her).

Just ignore. Ignoring someone is the best option and she retains her class. Class is always learnt so violence is only for the losers.
