I think they could possibly have some evidence but not enough conclusive evidence against them.
Whether or not they are guilty is 50/50 (for me).
PJ say they are looking at other avenues now but I suspect they are still gathering evidence and as they do it behind closed doors they have no reason to tell the McCanns or anyone else anything.
But it is rather fustrating and is hard on those two if they turn out to be innocent.
I note not one piece of evidence was found on Robert Murat or in his vehicles or house.
I do think the McCanns have reacted in the most weirdest way ever to losing a child. Perhaps its the guilt they feel for leaving their children alone which they must know privately is a neglectful thing to do.
All of this doesn't help find Maddy though and I wonder why they haven't started using the fund for this purpose. Surely this is the key?

I skinny kthe PJ are so bored stiff with the McCanns intervention and impact on the case that they are going to habit any added analyze as quietly as conceivable and then re query them. The extra assistance thats leaked through the PJ, the extra the PR team positioned a different spin on it or attempt to discredit the evidence before it even reaches a jury. If this occasion is going to trial getting an independent jury would be fairly complicated...... yet yet another rationalization for the McCanns PR human beings to maintain them interior the information.

I really can't find anything to like about these two but it actually worries me that this whole PR fiasco is doing them no good at all - they seem more guilty with all these defences flying around and all these heavy weight experts - I'm worrying for them.
So that was when I started thinking that perhaps it was a really clever bit of PR with reverse psychology, that they do such a monumentally collosaly bad job of it and all the people that disliked them will start to think they're being lead astray and start feeling protective of them.
Now I don't know what to think - I have heard a rumour that CM is now working for them because he might have been pushed from his job due to the bugging leak - but that was purely conjecture. And also a slightly more reliable rumour that if they are charged it would be a massive embarassment to the PM due to his earlier attachment to the case (although one would hope that wouldnt stand in the way of justice?!)

No it's only turning the public against them. Yes we do need to be reminded that Maddie is missing so that we can still keep looking for her or at least find out for definite what's happened to her but we do not need to hear of the daily coming and goings of the parents. This just makes them out to be attention seekers enjoying the five minutes worth of fame that the tragedy of Maddie going missing has brought them.
Also the constant different stories about the McCanns, for me at least, has caused me to change my opinion about what has happened at least a dozen times. I go from supporting them to thinking they're guilty. I would love to be able to stay neutral but that's impossible given that you can't turn on the Internet, Television or open a newspaper without having it forced down your neck.
Yes let's find Maddie but there was a world before this happened and I'm sure there is still one out there we just can't see it with all the PR gimmicks.

Yes, I think it works really great. Thanks to their efforts, the best brains all over the world are working here, in Yahoo Answers, offering outrageus theories and deep reflections, concerning the political, sociological, forensic, etc aspects of the case. Moreover, parents are now much more careful, and chain their children to their beds before going out to dinner in the not-so-civiliced countries like Portugal, Spain, Greece and so on. Or they pour flour in the beedrooms, to be able to follow the kidnapper's footprints. Thank Goodness for the McCanns case

I neither know nore care whether the public swallows all this spin or not. I think for myself. Considering they haven't even been charged with anything, not even neglect, their actions are outrageous and some might say suspicious.

Most of the hatred towards the McCanns has stemmed from speculation, not evidence. So yes, if they can counteract the lies, good for them. Hard evidence is that, evidence. It shouldn't be based on what a hysterical woman says when her child is discovered missing. Especially, if it isn't true. We are told that the McCanns don't show their grief, so if someone can stand up and say "We say them cry!", isn't that good?
facts are facts, let's stick to them. And not build up a case on a tissue of lies, stories, misunderstandings, insinuations, speculation and disbelief.
Edit: Did you miss the bit where the Portuguese police have always played down Jane Tanner's story?

It's the Louise Woodward case revisited. The McCanns just haven't found a scapegoat yet.
