Doctors don't usually treat hypertension until you BP runs at least 140/90 regularly. If yours is this high, you could cut back on salt. This works for about half of people who try it. Careful, as salt is sort of a hidden ingredient in most foods. Exercise is also helpful. Stress reduction is absolutely necessary, so meditation, reading relaxing material, good sleep, listening to relaxing music, yoga, working out, pilates..... anything that enhances your body's health. Good luck.

The foods listed by the first poster will help; you could also try using relaxation techniques, using breath control etc. Another possibility is hypnotherapy which I know definitely works as I've used it myself for a problem that I had for 15 years, which drs said was incurable. 3 sessions of hypnotherapy eradicated it, and that was 5 years ago! So definitely worth a try.

I would recommend removing sodium from your diet, and that includes reading labels to look for things like 'Natural Flavors,' where salts and MSG are hidden.

You should also increase your water intake, B-vitamins, Vitamin E, and lots of green leafy vegetables.

Exercise can help, as well, but should not be undertaken without first checking with your doctor.

Good luck!

Hi Robert, Hypertension is another word for high blood pressure, is a persistent blood pressure above 90 mm Hg between the heart beats (diastolic) or over 140 mm Hg at the beats (systolic)..
High blood pressure occurs when the arteriole arteries narrow, making it difficult for blood to pass through them. This forces the heart to pump harder to get the blood through. As the pressure increases above normal and is sustained, the result is high blood pressure.
Person being overweight, having a sedentary lifestyle, smoking or chewing tobacco, excessive alcohol consumption, and low potassium levels - factors for develop of high blood pressure.

Lifestyle measures shall always be a component of the hypertension treatment. Sometimes such measures are enough to cure the condition. Those measures are:

- Reducing salt consume.
- Reduction of fat consume, and especially of saturated fat consume.
- Weight reduction.
- Relaxing and stress reduction techniques, for example meditation and autogenic training.
- Regular exercise.

I know that Fish oil , fat fish, Olive oil, vitamin B3, inositol, turmenic extract and gum guggul extract - use of to reduce blood pressure. Ingredients which giving a direct anti-hypertensive effect, like potassium, magnesium, calcium, vitamin C and fatty acids from marine sources.

When lifestyle measures and supplements are not enough to cure the condition, you likely need see your doctor.
