They actually play a tiebreaking game.

A couple weeks ago when the American League wild card was a little closer they did a coin flip to decide who would have home field advantage if the wild card ended in a tie and the game needed to be played. The yankees won both coin flips and would have hosted either the mariners and tigers.

I know its a little far fetched but i wonder what they do if there is a 3-way tie for the wild card?

Theres only a coin flip if the wild card team ties its division leader. whoever wins the coin flip host's the other team and whoever wins the 1 game playoff wins the division and the other team gets the wildcard. which is what is most likely going to happen with the phillies and mets. and maybe the yankees and red sox, it should be fun to watch!!!

Er, no. Tiebreaker game. MLB has already conducted coinflips for the most likely pairings of possible wildcard contenders, should a tiebreaker become necessary. If new possibilities emerge over the coming 10 days, additional coins will be flipped.
