Consumer A buys the *shiny new gadget version 3.2." In two months time, "Oh my god, I must get the new shiny gadget version 3.3 ! The version 3.2 is now obsolete!"

My co-workers at work, that's all they can talk about. I have long avoided getting caught up in this, but the consumerism is so pervasive that I am near the point of submitting.

It almost an "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" situation. *sigh*

Reach your hand around behind you.

Do you feel those bumps in the middle of your back?

That is your spine. Use it.

Your decision is relative. IF Gadget 3.3 is in point of fact truly superior to Gadget 3.2, and you require it to sustain life comfortably, purchasing Gadget 3.3 would be necessity, not conformism. BUT is Gadget 3.3 is a . . . rip-off, so to speak, and propaganda and marketing has fabricated a facade for the people, then Gadget 3.3 would be irrelevant and of no use to you. You would be able to beat them. No joining needed.

I understand exactly what you are saying! As soon as you get your prized..i dunno...camera...joe shmuck just got something 10x "cooler"..

ive have always stuck with items that i need more than items that i want...its all just stuff anyway..

i remember when the first razor came out...and then they were releasing colors...pink, red...and i was thinking i would really like a green one! wow!!!! when colors even cost more, you know something has gone to far...we live in a corporate owned ****-hole of a life..i like to pick up my book, draw some pictures, learn about all sorts of history and chat about the atrocities of our civilizations versus blingin out the latest versions of whatever...

we all are consumers..unless you use the barter system..i would give you props if you did, but if you have the mindframe of not wanting to be materialistic yet you feel guilty cuz you buy things..then you aren't really that materialistic...its okay to have versions of ****..just dont go crazy over it....people who do that are tool boxes, douche bags..whatever you would like to call them..they succomb to the almighty corporate cream pie???????im losin it

Oh same case in my office. So many shallow people who worry about the next celphone/camera/etc model, when people in other parts of the world are dying because of war, hunger.

I believe, you'll gain strength by focusing on doing something, even little things, each day that will contribute to your ultimate goal or real purpose here on earth.
