Especially in college. I don't know were it seems to be going. It is like I have the same amount coming in as going out. I really need a new car and I have 3 grand saved, but that is no were near enough money. What should I do? try getting a new job? work a second job? They only let me work about 25-30 hrs a week at my current job. I just really need a good steady income somehow.

£3k is quite a lot to spend on a new car - does it have to be that expensive? Could you not spend less £1-2k and keep the rest for eg car insurance, MOT, tax, servicing?

Look around for better part time jobs which fit in with your schedule.

Sell stuff on eBay you no longer need, sell stuff for other friends and family and take a %

Spend less on non-essentials eg clothes, CDs, DVDs, etc.

Hope this helps, I live on a budget also and have quite an old yet still reliable car. Over the years it has saved me a fortune and has depreciated much less than what a new car would have done.

Thats the routinary problem that we mostly face everyday... how much is enough for us..... the more we go up the ladder of corporate life, the more expense we need to spend.... Getting a 2nd job would not work, it will only burden you more. perhaps even cause you to get frequent sickness due to weakening health thus depleting what you'd earn from that second job.

Sit down. Plan ahead. Find a sidelined work that will pay you residual income even when you are working full time. Sometimes network marketing works. Try to find the one that is suited for you. Limit your expenditures. Save before spending... Wise spending is the only answer. Save 10% of what you earn no matter what you do dont touch that 10% of what you save from your income.
Hope that advise helps

You are doing very well to save 3K while at college. Most people in college & society spend more than they earn because they are conditioned into thinking buying things can increase the feeling of Success or Happiness.

Sorry but that's not for what you went there in the first place. It would be most desirable as well as prudent to concentrate on your objective. The kind of money you can save now wouldn't be worth it,if do excel in what your objective is.Looking back after few years, this amount may look like some piss in the ocean.Nobody goes to college few drops of piss.

It is good that you are saving, and realize that a car is always an expense. You are pursuing a good direction in going to school. Use the education to get ahead career wise. Do something in your chosen path if possible.

Money is hard to save because it is so easy to spend! Everything seems to be getting more expensive faster than the pay rates are rising.

Unfortunately that's part of the 'pleasure' of living in an affluent country I'm afraid and it doesn't get any better as you get older. That's one of the major reasons we left the UK - to gain some quality of life and live to a better standard.
