About four weeks ago I fell and hit my forehead on corner of a piece of furniture. I had a black eye afterwards and large bruise on my temple and below the eye on the cheek as well. The doctor said I was okay and sent me home. He took an x-ray and said that it didn't show any damage. While the black eye is healed I have a noticable ridge in my skull that runs from just under my hair line down through the temple to my eye sockett as well as from the lower part of the eye sockett to the middle of my cheek bone. Is it possible that the doc was wrong? It is really sore and I have occasional headaches in that temple area but nothing over whelming. Since so much time has passed, is it worth it to go somewhere else and have another doc look at it?

Ms Crone, it sounds to me like you skul itself recieved a bruise. It's not dangerous at all. It just will take a while for the bone in that area to recover from the trauma, and it'll be sore and have localized swelling of the bone itself for some time. It WILL go down after a couple of months. However, if you can afford it and to reassure yourself, a follow up visit to the clinic wouldn't be out of order. It may be a bit expensive though, they WIL want to do at least a CAT scan, which can be spendy.

I woud suggest that you take care around that area and try not to exacerbate the injury. Essentialy, that's what the Doc would tell you anyway, even IF there WAS a hairline fracture of the skull bones, the Dr would tell you that. So, just follow that advice as a matter of course and allow your body to heal up on it's own, naturally. Take Ibuprofen for the pain, when it gets unbearable and take it easy and try not to get TOO active, but go ahead and live your life as normally as possible. Sorry for your injury and hope you feel better soon. ((Ms Crone))

Yes, go back to the doc for a followup.

It may still not be evidence of a break, but maybe a deep bruise on the bone which can take a long time to heal.

But if you are having headaches, that is worth getting checked out.... I heard that the stuff *inside* your head is pretty important to you too, and worth taking care of :)

GO TO EMERGENCY NOW!!!! It is VERY possible that the injured area may have been too swollen for the X-Ray to have shown a fracture. The fact that it is really sore, along with the other symptoms you mentioned, is a concern. You may end up requiring a CT scan or an MRI. Please do not wait! If there is something going on there that was missed the first time, it is crucial that you get the necessary medical attention as soon as possible. I sure hope everything turns out ok for you!

with small bones there is a chance of not seeing the fracture in the bone. but the skull is another story. the chances are 1in a billion

It would be best if you undergo a CAT scan. Better late than never.
