We have been successful in challanging the NHS that they inappropriatly charged my grandmother for nursing care. We have been told we can claim £18,000 if we can prove she paid. The last cheque written from it was 8 years ago. We have contacted Barclays with her address and sort code but they cant track it. We have asked the nursing home but they do not have the records. Please can someone offer me a solution.

Barclay's can track it.

Ask to speak to a supervisor.

I'm guessing by the "pound" symbol that you are British so my idea might not work for you.

In the US, medical/nursing care payouts are usually noted on our yearly tax returns. Here in "The States", we are required to maintain those returns for 7 years.
I don't know how you Brits pay your taxes or what kind of paperwork you are required to submit and or keep but That is where I would start looking. Your grandmother's tax records.

Good luck to you!

PS: I too agree with Eric H. Press your bank for the info!

There is a time limit for both making legal claims, and for retention of documents such as bank statements. This is normally 6 years.

You may struggle to find anything older than this, unless someone in the family has a box of your grandmother's possessions.

Ask the lawyer who dealt with her will/estate. Or the executors, they should be able to help you.

Barclays should also know though, they probably just cannot be bothered to help you. Ask to speak to the branch manager (if you know what branch she banked in). They will have a trace of it (I know, I used to work in a high street bank) on their systems, if not on their old ledger books or on microfiche.

If you are still having difficulties with them, contact these people:

Tell Barclays to have some compassion; what would the branch manager do if it was his grandmother?

Shame on them and good luck.
