Wash them in soft water. The mineral residue from hard water gets left behind in the drying cycle and that is what dulls the colors and turns the whites dingy grey. The whiteness will return after repeated washing in soft water.

I have found that if I follow the cleaning instructions on the label of all my clothing, it works pretty well. Some white fabrics cannot be bleached, as they will turn gray or wear out quickly, so I use a color brightener on them. Dull whites that will tolerate bleach will whiten right up again if you bleach them. Good luck.

Use bleach at the risk of weakening the fabric. For something milder, use a cup of peroxide per load, or detergent that contains bleach.

hang them outside , as I said in my other answer to you . The sun will bleach them whiter than white.

Borax.
Add granular water softener with wash (I use Calgon) found in laundry isle of stores.
bleach works - - but tends to yellow fabrics after a few washings.

I like to use

Foca detergent it mexican brand soap that cost less than Tide and works better...

You have to let the clothes sit in washer for while atleast 20 mins prefer over night. I did that one time with one t-shirt in pot and it work.

Do not use to much bleach as it will cause yellow spots and eat holes in shirts.....
