There are several degrading factors here which should be eliminated:
-your personal desires and fears towards the person you are doing the reading for. The more emotionally involved you are, the better the connection, but the worse the reading. Meditate to achieve neutrality.
-Possible transferal of her internal images onto the cards. Which is why when the person is in an agitated state I will lay them out for them instead of getting them to do it themselves. Possibly get your friend to meditate before picking the cards if she is a good meditator.
-Improperly washed cards may still contain traces of previous readings. Clean them energeticaly between questions, not just between sessions.
-Improper transferal or allignment of the cards energy with the person's energy. This can happen if you are doing the picking and dislike the person or are otherwise blocking them. It can also happen when the person is in a defensive state which will hamper all energetic contact. In the former send the person to another reader or find out and clear your dislike/struggle. In the later bypass energetic defences by placing the card directly on the apropriate chakra's/body parts of the person.
-Interference from spirits. Just like friends each spirit will have another strong opinion of how to solve the crisis. Unfortunately their various messages will create overspeak and muddled messages. Talk to her guides and work out the deal they can all show their opinions sequentially and do as many readings as there are opinion groups of guides.
-Influence/contagion of the reader. Some persons want the reader to say certain things and have the power to influence the reader. Stop them from this self-fulfilling prophecy loop by self-protection and getting them neutral through meditation. Many people seek to dump their problems through energetic connections, if you connect to them their bad energy/karma will flow to you protect yourself and teach them to stop doing this. Some healers actually use this technique to suck bad energies out of their clients, do this consciously, not subconsciously. There is always some change is your energetic body to make it more similar to the person, learn how to compensate for it's effects and if needed use protections or limit your connection to the person. also do not do this when your own energy is exhausted.

Ms Crone,
Doing a reading with the highly charged energy of emotional turmoil will ALWAYS interfere with a reading. If a person is in that state, the reading should always be psotponed until the client is in a more stable frame of mind. The same could be said for a client who is violently ill as well (the only exception being for a chronically ill person).
I find it useful to begin a session witha short period of conversationand a little tea to calm the client down and avoid any discussion of events that may have brought about turmoil in the first place. Distraction is usually the BEST way to prevent negative energies from clouding a reading. that even helps when you are dealing with a sceptical client as well. Once they realize that you ARE proficient at what you do and can find confidence in your abilities and skill theysettle down enough for a good reading to begin. If they are TOO engaged in their emotional state then you may have to have them return some other time when they are NOT so emotional.

i read runes, (sometimes tarot but not often.)
on a few occasions i have fund that a person in an extreme emotional state can cloud the readings. make it very difficult to discern what is going on..
i believe this is because divination really just tries to look at the future state of a present energy. that is my theory anyway. and it makes sense. (well at least to me)
a person in an extreme emotional state may have a very foggy or possibly very short future. thus it can be hard to read it.
in these cases i usually do another reading when they are more stable.

I will have to agree 100% with pixie, I don't read Tarot very much anymore, as my mind is not as it was, when I was young..
I think that you did take on your friends emotional baggage and that has put a complete mist between your psychic ability and the cards...
Similar to doing energy work, as you take all the "crap" away from someone, you take it on, and you have to get rid of it...
Staying grounded is paramount, as you would know...
Hopefully you will get an answer from someone who is far more experienced in these matters...
Blessed Be... )O(

Oh, yeah. Her energy completely effected the reading. As her friend, you shared some of that energy, and you're just not going to get a good reading in those conditions. As you know, you are a better channel when your energy is calm and clear.

I don't read anymore.
But yeah that is understandable, I often had times when due to their emotional state or sometimes for seemingly no reason at all I couldn't get a good read.

Reading for a family member or close friend is always more challenging than reading for someone you are not close to for reasons already offered by "pixie" and "aussie witch." It's common practice for doctors not to treat their family and close friends. . . I sometimes wonder if we (as Tarot readers) shouldn't read for our family and close friends too. Staying grounded is essential. Holding a piece of tumbled hemitite in my hand helps me stay grounded as I do readings for people I am close to.

seems like you were identifying with this friend. almost as if you took her problems and made them your own and so were not able to do an unbiased reading. i've found it's easier to do readings for strangers than for people with whom we are involved emotionally because besides having to open ourselves as channels for the information, intuition etc, while remaining unbiased.
there might also be the element of wanting to please your friend, worrying about if what you'll say will make her emotional state better or worse, etc.

you are able to't see into the destiny. We exist in a dynamic temporal continuum. The timeline is formed by utilising the movements of nondeterministic remember/potential structures. loose will precludes the potential for predestination.
