After Zimbabwe gained its independence most Whites still controlled the land. A few years back the President Mugabe issued a "land re-distribution" act where the government went to these farms and took land by force from the White people and gave it to the blacks. There was often violence and rape involved in these take overs.
As a result of this "Land re-distribution" act blacks ended up with more land than the Whites. So you know what that means? Nothing! Nothing at all!
The Blacks did absolutely nothing with the newly claimed land, they did not farm it or tend to it like the Whites did. They sat on it all day long and did absolutely NOTHING. As a result there was wide spread famine and shortages and the people of Zimbabwe suffered greatly. That's one of the many reasons for why Zimbabwe (once the richest country in Africa) is in an economic melt down.

The main problem in Zimbabwe is Nepotism . It did not start with land reform but since 1980 .

I not want to judge people, but, those that had the land working for the economy lost the land to those who were inexperienced to work the land did not know what to do.
I never partied with Mugabe and really not know the man except for what we hear. Maybe he had good intentions, but, he not a wise man and not think of his people as a whole, only what he can gain. I will bet money he eating good.

My understanding is that the land was given to cronies of Mugabe rather than farmers. As a result, we have seen a famine in what used to be the breadbasket of Africa.
