If she does it, then it's child abuse. Especially since it states on the bottle not to give it to infants. That's child endangerment.

Talk to her. If your still concerned, call a doctor, or her childs pedi. to get his /her opinion, with no names. If there are still concerns then yes you should call. There is no need to drug a child so a parent can sleep. My older 2 sons were given baby diamatapp at 4 months, at doctors advise, to help them establish a pattern. That was only for 4-5 days tho. But since you only overheard part of a conversation, do your reasearch because there is the chance of reporting something that has no merit and then she and her baby will be under the scope for awhile. And once there it can take a long time if ever to get out of!

This is considered drugging a child and if under the appropriate age (which I think is 12 for nytequil but I could be wrong) it can be considered endangering a child unless the Dr prescribes it to be given. They had an incident at a daycare here in ohio about 3 years ago where they busted the teachers giving the kids nytequil to knock them all out at naptime and all of the teachers involved including the director were found guilty of child endangerment and aren't allowed to work in daycare again and the director spent time in jail. Yes I would call and make an anoynamous tip that she is giving the child nytequil and give the childs age and address and they can investigate. Hopefully the neighbor was just joking but you never know anymore.

Looks like I am the minority, but if that's the ONLY indication of abuse (the mother has always appeared to be a loving, wonderful person) then you should NOT report it...
If the child has the sniffles and is having trouble sleeping, baby Nyquil is perfectly acceptable.

As the mother of 1, and one on the way, I know that sometimes, we feel very helpless when our children are having problems... We will try anything to help them feel better. Even my dr has suggested Benedryl to help my little one sleep when she needed to (when we were traveling across country). This doesn't make me a bad parent, it makes me a concerned parent, who is willing to do whatever it takes to make her angel comfortable.
It is my thought that a lot of these people who are posting very deragatory and inflammatory statements aren't parents...
Again, if this mother seems like she is the sort to put her child in danger for her own selfish needs, then yes, report... otherwise, remember that once child services has been called, there is no uncalling them if you should find out the rest of the overheard conversation :-)

You will need to find out in details first. Maybe the child is under medical needs or maybe she's just joking. But I guess its best that you reported her in case something bad might just happen. Nitequil is to put him to sleep in case that child might have problem sleeping at nite. But I still suggest you report her since I guess, its too early to be given nitequil rite?

It is definately wrong. And very unhealthy for a baby!! Is this neighbor a friend? If so, takl with her about your concerns. If not, consider calling child protective services. You may the one person who can and will speak up for an innocent baby that has a mother that obviously doesn't care for her baby. NyQuil can cause serious respiratory distress in babies, children, and even adults with respiratory problems. Good Luck!

NO do not report her because once someone has been reported to cps there name is always going to be on file no matter what.C.P.S can come around without giving any notice, even if that person has been cleared and she will have to ring and tell cps what medication the child has to take and the child have to go for random blood tests to cheek everything and the child doesnt need to go threw all the blood test's every 3 weeks its too much for the child. Think about would you want your child/ren to go threw all that? I know i wouldnt want to go threw it again. You might not have heard the whole convo she might have the child's niteguil and the maternal health nurse might be controlling it you dont know the conversation. Dont cause trouble for any one if you dont know the facts

well, if you have noticed her saying things like that before or if you have seen she is the type of person who really means it - yes report her
if you think her "tone" of voice was joking because she was overtired or something (not that it's a funny joke) she may have just being been sarcastic in a stupid sort of way and may never really consider doing anything like that for real to her baby - so make sure you know the facts first - keep a very close eye on her - if you notice anything else unusual behaviour - definitely stand up for the little one!

she may just be kidding.... I say stupid stuff like that also. I never would really give my baby meds unless he was in pain, sick or his Dr. told me to. I would not report her.
Keep and eye on the child if anything looks strange then report her.

There is Nyquil that is made for babies.
Many people give their infants things such as whiskey to put them to sleep. I don't necessarily agree with it, but it is definitely not unheard of. Anyway, calling CPS is pretty much useless because CPS is pretty much useless. Even if the child was being abused somehow, unless their home is covered in feces and the child is covered in welts, or something along those lines, CPS won't do anything.

Yes you should report it. Doing this has actually caused infants to die because the alcohol suppresses their breathing as well as giving an overdose of an adult cough medication. She is drugging her baby.
Any of these drugs found in the drug Nyquil can be lethal for an infant because of the danger of overdosing. It isn't even recommended for nursing mothers to take it.
Acetaminophen, dextromethorphan, doxylamine, and pseudoephedrine
