My parents named me Kahli which is prounounced like Carly. I also have a friend whose name is Carly & she is forever spelling it, as am I. Why is there not one traditional way to spell this name? I always thought Carly was the traditional way, but according to my friend, she always gets "C or K?" "Ey or Y" etc.
Do you know of any other name have this many variations to spelling?...
Carly, Carley, Carli, Carlie, Carlee
Karly, Karley, Karli, Karlie, Karlee, Kahli, Kahlie?

Just like how Tammy can be Tammi, or Cory, Cori, or Corey, or perhaps your name is Zack or Zach, it is usually just a matter of preference.

Some parents name their child a specific name for their own reasons, but several different names can be shortened, altered, or repronounced to be a more common name. For instance, I have a friend name Timothy, who goes by Tim. I also have a friend named Olarotimi, who also goes by Tim. However, I have a friend who goes by Tym, spelled with a Y. Each person spells their name as they please, and some people prefer to be different (or the parents prefer to name their child differently).

Carly isn't traditionally a formal given name, but a nickname. If formal names are given to variations, then the sky is the limit with nicknames!

Assuming that Carly is a nickname for Charlotte, Caroline, Carla or some other feminine version of Charles, then yes, I'd say Carly, Carlie or maybe even Carli is the obvious spelling of the short version.

But hey, in the age of kreatif naming, we're all wise to realize that "David" might be spelled "Davveed" and proceed accordingly!

Yep i like The call Carly because it is my call as nicely. It does annoy me each each now and then while people spell it incorrect. and additionally once you go right into a modern keep or some thing and you will't locate some thing with my call on it e.g a keyring.

One of my friends moms spells it Caerly, it looks kinda odd tho:)
Although my name is Samantha i go by Sammie and people spell it wrong all the time.
Sammi, Sami, Sammy, Sammey, Samie, Samy, Samey, Samme, Same
The last two are kind of silly but those are the mispellings that come up most often with subs in school and when i meet new people! odd right?

actually, i would've thought your name was pronounced
"KAH - lee" ( i know people from New York, Jersey, etc pronounce Rs like Hs,but now it's the other way around too? Confusing...unless it's foreign). But anyway, i've seen Carly, Carley, Carlee, Carli and Carlie.
