Is there a petition out there for the ACTUAL victim in Jena? You know, the guy that actually got beaten? Just curious!

I agree, It always amazes me that people will march for people who broke the law and treat them like victims

Their status as victims stopped when they beat the kid and took the law in thier own hands.

If they would have called ofr marchers and protesters to come down and march against the injustice of the white kids hanging the noose and only getting a short suspension I would have been behind them it was wrong.

but they took the law into their own hands and beat that kid. One of the black kids who beat the boy had an extensive police record for violent crimes. They broke the law they should be punished. The white kids should have their punishment reviewed and amended Two wrongs dont make a right so they need to be punished.

Let's see, Mychal Bell is the ONLY one of the 6 still in jail. While politics and racial tensions are being fired up, the victim is forgotten. Apparently the 6 ran the kid's head into a brick wall and knocked him unconscious. Then they kicked him when he was down. This rises to a whole lot more than a "black eye and some bruises". I believe that ANYONE, white or black would have and should have been charged with attempted murder for this level of violence.

The real victim in this case is forgotten, collateral damage, the TRUTH. We tend to forget that the statue of justice is BLINDFOLDED for a reason. Race should not play a role, either positively or negatively in charges brought.

On the other side of the coin, the students who hung nooses in the tree should also be PROSECUTED for hate crimes. I have heard people actually try to say that that was a "harmless prank". Yep, just about as "harmless" as burning a cross in your front yard. Whatever the prosecution could do in that instance is what should happen.

The city government of Jena has done a lousy job of handling this whole affair.

Well there are two sides to every story. As a black person from the south i have experience racism first hand. White people can say it doesn't exist, but it does. The ropes hanging from the tree was a threat to the black kids at Jena High School. In the last 5 year over 50 people have been found hung in the south. Yes those boys were wrong and yes one of them had a record of defending himself, but the white boy picked the fight and he lost. Just because he has a pass of fighting doesn't mean he should go to jail for 15 to 20 years for a school fight. Learn the facts of the situation before you try to send him away. We all are victims of racism.

The real victim is the American people. We have come so far yet have not gone anywhere. Sometimes you do things that you know are going to cause a problem. Hanging nooses. This is where American suffers. No one sees the problem of putting nooses on trees. However someone in the town did because the trees were cut down. Yes hitting someone is a crime. A beating this guy did not get. Look up the pictures. He had a black eye and some cuts. he was released from the hospital within an hour. he made his date that night. This was not attempted murder. if it was a lot of people would be in jail for attempted murder. I bet you a lot of real men have had black eyes and scratches on our faces. Not many were charged with attempted murder. I know as a kid I had a few black eyes. It's too bad we are in Iraq trying to "spread democracy" and we have these kind of things still going on here in our country.Maybe that is why it is such a hard thing in Iraq. Because we need to get democracy right here first. Yeah the kid got punched and scratch. No one tried to murder him or even attempted. The 6 were wrong but the crime here is assault basically a fight not attempted murder.

If there is, I'd like to sign it. This whole incident is a tragedy and prime example of the dangers of the current media. There where no issues regarding the noose incident, which was not racially charged, until community leaders and media made it an incident. there weren't any problems with the kids themselves, but when their parents poison them with false meanings of equality and righteousness, well, that's what results in sanctums of education being burned to the ground and people being assaulted for no reason. The "Jena 6" supposedly did their actions because they thought they were in the right, and now thousands of people are reinforcing that thought. That is the single most disgraceful thing the leaders of the Black community could do. The media has skewed the perception of the entire incident to promote a false cause, and that is why I don't trust the media, it is obvious that they are biased in this story and are causing more hate and injustice by spreading the filth by the likes of Jackson and Sharpton who promote crime and dishonesty in the name of equality. The simple fact remains that 6 young men attacked 1 young man at school and continued to beat him after he was rendered unconscious until they were stopped by authorities. They need to face up to their crimes. Beating a man, no matter how little damage is induced, in a group of six and hitting him even after he is down in no way constitutes a fight. That is attempted murder, even if they failed to kill him. The issue is straightforward and it only gets skewed when the color of the defendants skin, not the content of their character, becomes the focus of their "innocence".

If six beat one until he is unconscious, I don't consider that a school fight. It is simply a gang beating Rodney King style and should be punished as such. Louisiana has many problems like murders, poverty, Katrina cleanup & fraud, etc..., but the punishment fits the crime. It is common in most states to charge 16 and 17 year olds as adults when a violent crime (again 6 vs. 1 unconscious) has occurred. Can't we all just get along?

I don't know it seems like a few ropes hanging in the tree 3 months earlier are way more important then a boy being knocked unconscious and having his head swelled and blindness in one eye plus he still suffers from headaches but lets get back to the important stuff.

One of the boys was 16 at the time and had 3 priors for the same offence but of course he is innocent and deserves to be free to do this again.

It's not going to happen. Most of the people that went down there didn't really know the facts of the case and the criminal history of the defendants. Most wanted to be like their grandparents in the old civil rights days so they would feel good about themselves. Give me a break, they look more like sheep to me. These two idiots by the names of Jackson and Sharpton can't hold a candle to MLK. This was a great example of grandstanding by Jackson and Sharpton. They don't really want equality because if there was, they wouldn't be needed and they would lose their power. Why do you think Jackson said that Obama is trying to be white. That comment right there shows how much Jackson wants equality.

The real victim of Jena is the American people. If they need equality, then follow the law, or take their punishment. Civil rights is for all americans, not just black americans. Here we go again. 45 years wasted. Back to the 60's.

-Is that POOR School District! It let that ENTIRE situation get TOTALLY out of it's Control. School ground fights- happen Everywhere, ALL the time... & they get "handled" appropriately- WITHOUT the details of them showing up on CNN ! The entire thing was TOTALLY overblown... & Jena has no one to blame- but itself.
