I've had a screenplay being reviewed by an A List company since May 2007. They liked it and said they needed a bit more time and would get back to me within a week. It's nearly October. I do not have an agent. It was FedExed to them. Should I call them again or wait til they call me?

Welcome to a very complicated and risky business. You will learn the hard way like most new screenwriters do. You don't need an agent to sell a script, but the next time around I'd go with a good publicist that knows the business. If you sell the script then you'll need an agent because the sell will open up a lot of doors for you. You need to start all over again and I hope that your work has been protected. There's a book titled "the screenwriters bible" that will educate you more on the marketing procedures. One of my film groups "New England Film . com" has a strong background working with new writers on the block. Check out all of their departments just to identify with what a good film group has to offer. If I knew what company you went with then I could give you a better opinion of what really happen there. Other than that, don't give up! If they haven't got back to you by now then there's something funny going on there or the script is sitting on a tall stack of scripts that will never be read by the right people. Good luck and email me if I can refer you or help you in any other way.

I agree with buonasera. I also hope that you had it registered with WGA and the Library of Congress so that they aren't actually in pre-production without you...

Also, this is the Entertainment Business. The person who told you 'within a week' may have been fired later that day and no one else knows about your script. You need to track it down and find out what's going on. I'm assuming they actually received it. Did you keep your receipt from FedEx? Did you get a signature confirmation? Keep the paper trail just in case.

good luck!

If they are interested, then they may be doing the rounds to see about directors, actors, etc. You should certainly be "in their face" as much as possible. If they haven't really done anything with it, you could always use the ploy of saying that you have "other companies interested in it, so move on it or you'll be left behind". That sort of thing.
