My son broke his femur a couple of weeks ago. As a result he was given a pin in his leg and it was set. He is home now and doing some movement after being in bed for most of the days after his surgery. He now hears a swueeking or rubbing in the area where he received the pin. Is this from over exerting it to early after surgery or is this normal, he feels no pain in the area but he is just concerned is all.

You can bring it up to his surgeon, but it is too early to tell I think. I had a pelvis broken in 3 places and my lower leg was broken in 4. I really went through alot of phases during the next year. I was back up and walking in 6 weeks but it went through many stages of healing, and yes pain at times.

Could be a loose screw. :-D
I would ask the doctor/surgeon to be sure. I have a pin in/on my Femur. It been there for about ......... well along time. Maybe 15 years now or more. It not make a sound except when I go through a metal detector. It not hurt. The doctor told me if it ever bother me they could remove it, but, no need unless I just wanted it removed.
It may not be the pin at all. I also broke my jaw in the Military, been a lot longer than the femur. There is a wire and it nothing. But, my jaw has made a griding/popping ever since at the joint, so, I guess that normal from damage.

Ok is it permanent or is it like a k-wire which is due to be removed?

If it is permanent he should consult a doctor as I am not entirely sure, however k-wires are different, I have 3 in my broken wrist now to be removed next week and I can hear/feel them move, doc said this is normal because they are set outside the skin and if I move they will move too so nothing to worry about.

hope he feels better soon
