URGENT Why is the Protista Kingdom so widely ranging in characterisitc?

Yup, as the previous answerer mentioned....it is the place to put organisms that do not belong anywhere else. Some protists resemble animals, some resemble plants. It is a very diverse Kingdom.

The main thing the members of Kingdom Protista have in common is that they don't fit neatly into any of the other kingdoms. Kingdom Protista is a "miscellaneous" kingdom of eukaryotes. So the members of the kingdom don't necessarily have characteristics in common.
