I became aware of how business and politics are as closely related as ice and water. I accidentally discovered the hypocrisy of our government. At every turn, they live the Hitler message, "lie to them loud enough and often enough and they will believe". I read everything I could and even obtained an MBA, primarily to understand the dynamics of economics. I read books on the Rothchilds of England, Hitler, the History of Oil, John and David Rockefeller, and many more. The conservative metality is money and power at all costs, including the sacrifice of basic rights. Liberal ideology is simplistic, but it places more value on the human element and how unique the world and it's people are and can be, if given room to run. I could go on for days about this wonderful question.

I'm more of an independent with some liberal and conservative leanings.
I can understand the conservative view that more government is not good. Governments can't run anything very well. Not even a lemonade stand.
Anything the government undertakes always ends up becoming just another huge, costly, bloated, constipated, bureaucracy in which the only people who do well are the clowns who run the circus.
And I can also understand the liberal desire for compassion. However, in reality, it always comes down to looking out for number one.
And giving people benefits that don't even cover their rent isn't compassionate. God help the person who has to rely on human compassion. A person is better off struggling along with some two-bit job, or jobs.

I'm more liberal than conservative on some issues, and vice versa on others. But I think I'm more of a liberal in the sense of social issues and that's where the consideration of my political leaning comes in.
Social issues such as helping the poor are where I mostly fall in, and that would make me a liberal, I suppose. The right contends that the free market is the answer. If that is so, then we'd have no poor or disenfranchised people in the country. But we do, so that's not the answer.
We do have these people, so I contend that it is one of the functions of government to redress inequities in our nation. Conservatives want no truck with that. So I could never be one of those.

I'm a bit of a centrist, yet more liberal that conservative. My right conscience comes from being Anglican, but I strongly believe in homosexual rights and the freedom to be able to have an abortion. I think capitalism is a better economic system that communism, and have seen the dangers of the latter after studying Russia, but I'm not convinced free trade is the best thing, and I strongly oppose any type of war and want to save the environment. That being said, if I were American, I'd support the Libertarians, and then the Democrats, but there is no party whose policies I fully agree with.

First and foremost thank you for a wonderful non-biased question.
I am a Liberal because I believe that the government should work FOR the people not the select few. and that the law should apply equally to all people, rich or poor, black or white, religious or atheist, straight or gay.
I am Conservative because I believe in picking yourelf up by your boot straps, hard days work equals honest pay, and gun ownership.
I am American because I vote for both parties depending on the candidate and not their party. I will vote for those that are the most likely to protect the middle class, protect labor in this country, and keep the government out of my private life.

The best answer I can give you is:
1. Look in a good thesaurus to see what either of these "loosely used" terms (liberal or conservative) could mean.
2. Take a good look in the environment into which you were brought up, be objective about it and decide if you want to use any of these two "general" tag-marks to identify yourself or anyone else for that matter.

I am neither but both at the same time, liberal ideas and very conservative and would like smaller government as well.
Unfortunately politics is so corrupted that its hard to align with anyone these days.

I am proudly a liberal because I believe that the people deserve to be represented by their government for the rights of the people...not the corporations of the country.
I am a liberal because I believe war of aggression is never the answer.
I am a liberal because I believe that every American has the right to believe in and be protected by everything in the constitution and the Bill of Rights.
I am a liberal because I don't think anyone has the right to make anyone else believe anything they don't choose to believe and neither does our government.
I am a liberal because I think when we were all born it was without any 'how to' manual and this life is what you 'choose' to make of it and no one has any proof of why we are all here and what comes after we die......people have 'opinions' but it's all speculation. In fact some people hedge their bets and follow the basest of their religions tenets 'just to be safe'.
and finally if it weren't for liberals we'd all still be living in caves thinking the world was flat!

You are free to be what you want to be but make sure to not compromise your rights as granted by the Law of the land. A drop of poison is more powerful than a barrel of water. If you don't be careful, pretty soon you will have no rights to choose, not even to be a liberal.

I conside myself a liberal because I think by myself. I interpret what I hear from the government with my own judgement and I don't believe the first inform I hear and I'm told. I question, and doubt what I hear and I believe that my opinion should be heard, not made the law and that's basically the biggest difference between a liberal and a conservative.
EDIT: And I'm realistic; liberals have their heads on their shoulders, not up their a**.
