if i can what use would it be will help control something

Now it is NOT recommended.
Turns into a nitrate factory.

Depends on what sort of tank you want. A fish only tank with few or no Invertebrates,coral gravel,and a light bio-load might benefit from a U/G. But it would require close monitoring of the Nitrates and diligent cleaning.
A U/G would not work all that well with coral or burrowing inverts,these would be better kept in a tank with a protein skimmer as the main filter.

I wouldn't recommend it just because the sand band in a saltwater tank is very important. Many little creatures live there that are very beneficial to your tank and if you filter them out your tank won't do as well. Also undergravel filters are a pain especially with sand because it just sucks it up. I would go with a canister filter instead.
