I don't mean 27, as in a perfect game. I'm referring to total strikeouts, fielded outs, and perhaps pick-offs by one pitcher in one 9 inning game. I know 20 is the record for strikeouts in a 9 inning game, so is it Clemens?

Strikeouts, remember, are credited as putouts to the catcher, since he's the last fielder to handle the ball.

My hardcopy record book only goes through 2003, so there's the chance that someone has done better since then (but I doubt it).

The record for putouts by the pitcher in a 9-inning game is seven, by Greg Maddux, 29-April-1990. Third: Maddux induces two grounders to first (Grace) and covers the bag (he also gets an assist on the third out). Fourth: another 3-1 putout. Fifth: yet another 3-1 putout. Sixth: two more 3-1 putouts. Ninth: got in on the backend of a 3-6-1 double play.

As for your more comprehensive question, Clemens in his first 20 K game (29-April-1986) also had one putout (Presley grounded out 3-1 in the seventh), so that is probably the record. None of the other pitchers who have had an 18+ K game since 1957 can match it.

the only 2 to even get 20 in a 9-inning interest are Roger Clemens (two times) and Kerry timber. Randy Johnson had 20 in the 1st 9 innings of an 11-inning interest, and that's formally called tying the checklist. a glass named Ron Necciai quite did have a 9-inning, 27-ok interest in college D ball back in 1952.

there can't be more than 27 in a 9 inning game... so what are you looking for? 20 strikeouts is held by Clemens and Randy Johnson, as far as most groundouts... you'd have to do some research... but i cant imagine more than about 15 or 16.

I believe you mean put outs by the pitcher (balls fielded by the pitcher in play), in which case the record is something like 12.

It would be either Roger Clemens or Kerry Wood, most likely; both have thrown games where they struck out 20 batters.
