Quality by John Galsworthy. Its about a shoe-maker who starves to death because he would compromise on quality.

Necklace by guy de Maupassant. its about a woman who turns a pauper seeking to repay her friend for nothing (almost). Its a terrible story.

Of course, Sherlock Holmes is extremely good. All stories...

I like a lot of fairytales.... also I just finished reading a book of short stories by Megan Whalen Turner It was called "Instead of three wishes" but one of the stories in there that I liked was titled "The Factory" it's about a guy who gets a job working as a crane operator at this place called Gerwinks Primary Factory(I think)and it's a ghost story. so he meets this ghost girl and reads poetry and other books to her on his lunch breaks. finally he decides he never wants to leave or get promoted so he poisons himself and lives happily ever after with the ghost girl and her mom, and siblings, etc.

I'm not really into short stories..I like the long ones. But I still remember the Long Walk by Stephen King, under his pseudonym Richard Bachman. It was a sick story!

Oh, I have a lot. Roald Dahl's Switch B*tch, a book of four somewhat linked short stories, is amazing. I also really like H. H. Munro and Ambrose Bierce.

Anything out of Kim Edward's "Secrets of a Fire King". There are people thirteen short stories in that book, and they are all amazing.
