Ok I work at a gym at the front desk. I am in college and have only worked there about a month now. Well I am a pretty shy and reserved person.. well today after work, the manager which is also a personal trainer, called me into his office to tell me that I am not being outgoing and high strung like he wants me to be and that he wants me to pretty much be jumping at people when they walk in the door. Well I am just not that person and I tell ppl hello, how are you, and goodbye, have a nice day when they leave very nicely and the manager says I am doing the "bare minimum." I really dont think he likes me b/c I dont flirt with him or wear revealing clothes like some of the other girls do. He is always rude to me and acts like he dont really like me or want me there. I get alot of compliments from customers at work, thats why I dont understand why he is telling me all this. I think he is making excuses to let me go even tho he said he would give me a 2nd chance. What should I do?

I do not want to change just because someone else wants me to. I am who I am and dont believe in that. I think I might start looking for another job. He always evaluates me and accuses me of having a complex, and that is very rude I think. He also walks away when I am talking to him and tells me my feelings and tries to tell me how "I" feel.

Looks like you answered your own question. I'd be looking for a new job... this one's not worth the trouble, and your manager sounds like a dick.

Ask the manager has he gotten any complaints about you and if he has what are they? Did he hire you? What were the requirements? Have you met them, that is, are you doing what you were hired to do? Have your customer tell the manager how well you are doing when you receive a compliment. The manager is not a professional therapist so there is no way he knows how you feel. It take no mental strain to fire someone but it takes talent to know how to manage people and make them productive. Good luck

Well hun take it from me. i had a job where my boss did the same thing. so i just quit my job and found another one. but then i decided the working thing really isn't for me. maybe talk to the dean at your school or your counciler and see what they say about it. and see what they think you should do. or talk to a loved one and ask them they may understand. but to be totaly honest i would find a new and better job than that. there is plenty of really good jobs out there for some one like you. i am a shy person myself and i wont even change for anyone. no one should have to change them selves just for a job or loved one unless it is about drugs or something. you know . but i hope all goes well for you. and good luck hun.

remember that everybody has a boss, and you may have to speak to that person.
