I got the Mirena inserted 4 days ago. I had a pregnancy test at the doctors before she insterted it which came up negative. But prior to that I hadnt had my period for 3 1/2 weeks.I only had spotting on the day it was inserted and now no bleeding?I feel pregnant, and told the Dr that but she said it would be fine that I wont be because I am breastfeeding (i have a 4 month old) But I have been getting periods and ovulating since I had my daughter. Before I had my daughter and since I had her I have had terible periods, Long, heavy and sore, hence why I choose the Mirena as contraceptive.
Does anyone know what will/can happen to my baby if I am pregnant with the Mirena? A baby wouldnt really be good right now, but I wouldnt want to know that I hurt him/her by getting the Mirena. I dont want to go to the Dr.s just yet, I dont want to look like a drama queen and like Im over reacting! hehe
Also, does your milk supply dry up if you fall pregnant again??
Thanks.

I would take another home pregnancy test, but just want to wait a little bit. My last pregnancy - I was 8 weeks along before I showed on a test. Even blood tests didnt pick it up until 8 weeks.

Im in the same boat. I've got a three month old, also a young mum and I want to get the merina but scared I might be preggies. With my pregnancy I also only showed up after 8 weeks! So we got a lot in common. It will not harm your baby at all but it can cause a miscarriage, there is a greater risk of miscarriage if is left in but while it is being removed the risk of miscarriage is greatest... just wait a while and if you're pregnant get it removed, dont worry till then...now that you're sorted what am I going to do...lol..

I don't know if your milk will dry up, but it wouldn't be good if you were trying to feed a baby with breastfeeding and feed another in pregnancy. So, I'd drop the breastfeeding if necessary.

I'm worried here that if you are pregnant the Mirena might cause the baby to not attach to the wall of the uterus properly, or maybe even cause it to un-attach from the uterine wall. That's right on the line of abortion for me. To me, the fertilized egg becomes a fetus when it attaches to the uterus.

I'd make up my mind whether you want a baby right now, take a home pregnancy test, and call my dr.

I could not find any information about what Mirena will do if you were already pregnant. They are assuming your dr tested you, but they didn't leave room for a person who doesn't show pregnancy early on.

Best wishes!

Your period could be taking it's sweet time. Also, with Mirena, your periods can lighten up, or stop all together. It is in the pamphlet.

I wouldn't worry about being pregnant. If you are still concerned in a few weeks, then take a test.

As for your initial question, there is a chance for birth defects, or spontaneous abortion (miscarriage) with Mirena.

Unless you are sure you are pregnant, (as in have a positive test) don't get the Mirena removed, it will make a mess of your hormones.

Your milk supply would be fine. You would need to ween your daughter at about four to five months pregnant, but no your supply wouldn't dry up.

You can still become pregnant while breast feeding
Your Dr. would not have inserted the device if you were pregnant, that's why they did the pregnancy test before the procedure
No your milk will not dry up if you become pregnant while you are nursing
You will continue to produce milk for as long as you are nursing your baby and keeping your fluid intake high.
How do you "fall" pregnant? become is the word you are looking for.

it is always a risk of birth defects when you take birth control and you are pregnant but you should talk to your doctor if you are really concerned .your milk will come back if you fall pregnant again.
