"i love him with all my heart" i hear that stuff a lot. why does the heart symbolize love when everything is just mental. "Love" is actually is something that builds up over time when you think about something or someone excessively for a period of time. What does the organ or the symbol have anything to do with this. And love is all mental right? When i love something, i actually feel something in my chest. Is this all mental? like, if you hear love coming from the herat, your brain would probably think of the heart and have an illusion of a feeling coming from the chest or the heart?

I've heart that if two people stand close together they form a heart that's why they have chosen that symbol but I haven't got an idea why they connect it with the organ....may be because when we are in love we feel that dull pain inside around the zone of the heart

This is the same exact question I was asking myself the other day!!!! Well, I thought it over, and in reality, love is all in the mind. The only thing your heart really does is pump blood everywhere. I think there's a certain part of your brain capable of feeling love and everything. The heart just symbolizes love, it really has nothing to do with your feelings. But then again, it's weird to think of it that way, b/c I always grew up thinking that love came from the "heart".

The heart was historically seen by some as the seat of the soul and the organ responsible for human thought. The Romans for example noticed that changing heart rates often corresponded with emotions such as fear, love and excitement. While it is now known that the heart has nothing to do with thoughts or emotions as such, people still carry on using the term "heart" metaphorically when talking about love.

Love, like other thoughts and emotions, comes from the brain, not the heart.

Ancient peoples used to believe that love and other thoughts came from the heart, and the concept has remained even though scientists now know better. It's just a saying.
