You know, its said to be a popular name but I don't know anyone with the name now and can't remember anyone at school with that name and there aren't any in my daughters prep classes at school either. So it can't be that popular really. There a lot of Kai's, and names with the 'ayden' sound happening. (brayden, kayden, hayden, aidan etc..)
Hanna is a beautiful, classic, elegant name and don't worry there won't be 3 kids in her class with that name. If people say its too common ask them to personally recall and count everyone they know with that name.
best of luck

Hannah (with the second H) is very popular in the US and has been for a few years. According to the Social Security Administration's web site, Hannah was the 8th most popular name for baby girls born in 2006. (They list the top 1000 for each year, so you might want to go through and find where Hanna fits.) I haven't come across Hanna much, but I know that in our preschool of 16 total students we had 3 Hannahs last year: 2 of them were 3 and 1 was 5. We know a 6 year old Hannah and her mother says there is always at least one other Hannah in her class.
FWIW, I think it's a classic, and I love the spelling Hanna.

Hi! Hm...well I looked it up on the SSN website, and it IS pretty popular these days, and climbing. I'm not sure. Personally, I don't know anyone close named that, but maybe because it wasn't popular when I was younger. I doubt there'll be 3 other girls in her class named this; maybe just one or two!
I'm obsessed with rare names...I really want my kids to be the only one in their class with their name. But if I loved a more common name, I wouldn't use popularity to change my mind. Hanna is pretty, so no worries on it's popularity!

i think it's a popular classic, but if you're worried about it being too common, just give her a more unique middle name. That way, even if she's not the only Hanna in her class, she'll still be the only Hanna Alessandra,or whatever you choose.

I know a LOT of kids named "Hanna(h)", so USING that name may be a fad, but since it originates from the Bible, the name itself is a classic.

It is hard to tell what is too popular and what is not. My son and his wife pondered over names and finally came up with an old name Delilah for their daughter born in January 2007. A few months later the song "Delilah" hits the charts, and everyone is using it. Who would have thought that could have happened?
