I am doing my homework and I was wondering since one question said 'Most of the countries in Europe use SI measurements. How could this be a problem if you went on a trip to Europe?' and so I thought USA used SI Measurements or do they use English measurements... Someone please help me ASAP! First one to tell me the right answer gets the best answer ^^

Americans use English measurements: cups, pints, quarts, inches, feet, and miles.

Most other countries use the metric system.

US uses English.

Europe uses metric. (But England still uses some common English measures, such as pints for beer and miles for distance, as well as the metric measures.)

It's not a problem at all. Once you use the new measurements for a couple weeks, they become second nature.

It is harder to buy clothes, though. Your waist, chest, hip measurements are all enourmous in centimeters!

It's called the Imperial measurement system, because it was in widespread use by the the English Empire, which is kind of funny, because it seems the US people are so loathe to relinquish it when they were so anxious to get rid of British rule.

Unfortunately, the US has been very slow to fully adopt and implement SI (metric) units. Historically, we were #2 to recognize the use of metrics. But you cannot truly say that the US isn't metric.

for a historical perspective see http://members.cox.net/mathmistakes/metrics.htm

and for current status/updates see http://ts.nist.gov/WeightsAndMeasures/Metric/mpo_home.cfm

In the medical field, metrics are "standard" but for most citizens, traditional units prevail.
