1. combine like terms: move stuff with x's to one side, move numbers to the opposite side
2x -2x + 3 = 2x - 2x + 8
0 + 3 = 0 + 8
3 = 8
Since this leads to a contradiction, there is no solution for x.
the product of 7 and the quantity of a number plus 2 is 14. Find the number.
First we translate English into math:
7(x + 2) = 14
Next we solve for x. To do so, first we simply:
7x + 14 = 14
7x +14 - 14 = 14 - 14
7x + 0 = 0
7x = 0
7x/7 = 0/7
x = 0

1) move terms with x to one side and constants to the other:
i.e. 2x - 2x = -3 +8, which shows that 0 = 5 and is obviously false. Check the problem again and follow the same method.
2) Let n = some number
7 x (n + 2) = 14
(n+2) = 14 / 7 = 2
n = 2 - 2 = 0

Hello,
subtract 2x from both sides and we have 3 = 8 which is impossible so tyhe solution is the empty set.
Second one:
7(x+2) = 14 divide both sides by 7 giving us x+2 = 2 subtract 2 form both sides and we have x = 0.
Now check and put 0 in for x giving us 7(0+2) = 14 yes!!
Hope This Helps!!

Ok, so for 2x+3=2x+8 I do not think that this is a true statement. Because to solve it, you would subtract 2x from both sides of the equals sign. This would leave you with 3=8 which is not true.
for the second one: your equation is:
7(x+2)=14
use distribution and you get 7x+14=14.
Subtract 14 from both sides and you get 7x=0.
Divide both sides by 7 and you get x=0.

2x+3 = 2x+8
2x+3-2x = 2x+8-2x
3 = 8
7x + 2 = 14
7x + 2 -2 = 14-2
7x = 12
x = 12/7

Your first one is false. They can never be equal. If you remove 2x from each side, you have 3 equals 8. THAT IS NOT TRUE.
Your second one is, 7(x+2)=14
7x+14=14
7x=0
x=0

subtract 2x from both sides, you get 3 = 8. This is not true.
Your answer, therefore, is No solution.
As for the world problem:
7 (x+2) = 14
7x + 14 = 14
7x = 0
x = 0

2x +3 = 2x + 8
2x - 2x = 8 - 3
0 = 5
But obviously it does not
7(x + 2) = 14
7x +14 = 14
7x = 14 - 14
7x = 0
x = 0
