Business casual usually means you don't have to go all out in a suit. A blouse, vest, blazer, long skirt, dress pants, and slacks are generally what's acceptable. Some companies are more lenient than others, so you can do a little research on what the policy is at the company. Sometimes it's better to dress up than to dress down. I do not recommend wearing jeans, shorts, t-shirts, sleeveless shirts, or showing cleavage because it gets too casual. And definitely wear nylons if you're going to wear a skirt...

Don't be too colorful either, don't wear anything too bright. Good choices would be white, black, navy blue, brown. For shoes, stick with black or dark brown and make sure they aren't open toed.

i generally wear things like chinos/khakis, jeans depending on the situation, casual tweed blazers, button down shirts, etc. Ann Taylor Loft is the best store for me and the whole business casual thing. I don't think jeans are totally appropriate in the business place unless it is OK in the industry you are in. I work in the wine industry in california and most of my clients wear flannel, fleece and jeans every day.

It means you don't have to go all-out power suit, complete with the to-die-for heels. You can wear slacks with a dressy blouse, and sensible shoes

on episodes of what not to wear, generally they will pair a nice pair of jeans with a spiffy blazer and a nice shirt. maybe a pair of flat shoes.
